What's wrong with this idea?

A few months ago, I started a Ad Marketplace and Auctions website.
The idea was simple. For webmasters who want to sell ads directly to advertisers, all they had to do was sign up at http://www.adspace-auctions.com and post the type of ads they are selling on their websites. They could choose to sell at a fixed price or in an auction fashion.
Everything is free on the website and I am not taking any commission.

However, the website has failed to take off. Is there any wrong with this type of service?
I thought it would be a great service to the webmaster community.
Webmasters could keep 100% of the proceeds of the sale of ads on their websites and I was cutting the middle man such as google, ysm, adbrite, adengage, etc..

Why hasn't it been any interest for adspace-auctions.com?

For it to take off it has to hit an initial audience at first... and then word of mouth gets around etc. Maybe do some ppc advertising JUST for the time being.

Can't use PPC. Keywords in this field are very expensive. The market of online ads is very lucrative and there are big players like yahoo, adbrite who bid for the same keywords.
My site is 100% free therefore I can not invest that much money in PPC.

It is a great idea, but with any new website, you have to invest money in advertising and promotion to get it going. There are a lot of good websites that go unnoticed, keep plugging a way and maybe it will take off but I think at some point you will have to invest in some good advertising to get it really pumping.

I think the idea is good, try to get filled the categories and start promoting it vigorously.

It is much easier to post an add or start an auction on these forums and have hundreds of webmasters view / bid rather than posting on your site and maybe only having 1 or 2 views. You need to build up a user base.

I would start submitting some original articles to places where webmasters lurk (not the monsterously monster article directories).

What you need is promotion! Get the word out through some viral marketing and maybe some advertising. It sounds like you have a neat idea and there could be a lot of people that could use your website but the trick is in finding them and making them come to your place.

So you are basically competing against BST section on this forum? Well, you need to bring traffic but HOW is the question. You need to market hard or place an advert in your local newspaper, go to your church and announce it, etc...

No. I am not. That's an auction website.
I don't think that placing ads on local papers or churches is going to make a difference.
Remember, my targeted audience are webmasters and advertisers.

I disagree. There are NUMEROUS auctions in these forums. Its not a bad thing - competition is always (usually) good. Ill add my site later this week.

Too much comeptition in that area. Is your script custom made or you bought it from somewhere? If you bought it, how much did you spend on improvements? Because you must be sure that the same day like 1000 other people bought the same script and was offering the same services. How do you stand from the crowd?

    It's the number game.

You need to find the right mix of buyers and sellers.
If either of 'em mis-match, then very likely it wouldn't take off.

Demand and supply heard of it ? ;)

The idea is great though, but you find this option in most of the webmaster forums.

Build a forum where you get quite a few number of people around and then may be start with something similar. The response then will be much better :)

    All the best.

    All Success,
    ~G

Sounds like a decent enough idea which has been poorly implemented. Why don't you team up with a reputable online marketer?

Very similar to Adbrite and other sites- it's been done many times.

The difference is in advertising and big name endorsements.

If you can promote it and get people behind it, it might work.
