I agree Will, especially if people start at a young age. I know a lot of people who seem pretty much brain dead if you ask me. Seems like all they live for is their next smoke, they have no motivation in their lives except to smoke.
So people shouldn't abuse it. Big deal. People shouldn't abuse alcohol, but they don't get sent to prison for using alcohol responsibly. And yeah, people shouldn't start smoking at a young age unless it's for medical reasons, but with the current system it's easier for young people to get pot then to get alcohol. Having it legal fo 21+ year olds and for medical reasons would get rid of the street market and force kids to at least go to the trouble of getting a fake id or convincing someone to buy it for them.
I'm all for legalization. My position can be summed up with this phrase: No consensual crimes in a free society. I can't imagine that anyone thinks it's a good idea to spend our tax dollars to house, feed, and clothe some schmuck for smoking weed.
Oh my gosh! Same here. I kind of think you should be able to abuse any drug if you want to, as long as you're not hurting anyone else. I think if drugs were legalized, there would be less street crimes. Besides I puff myself now and then.
Great thread.....too bad its 2 years old.... My observation: In most major cities in the developing world....you are inhaling worse particulates just by breathing the AIR. Humans have been inhaling smoke since Neanderthal days -- cave men had to light smoky fires to keep warm! Our genes have developed over the millions of years to develop a resistance to carcinogens from smoke. Those who have chain smoked cigarettes and lived until they were 80 years old......have the caveman gene!
Here's one of the greatest olympic athletes ever, Michael Phelps: How good would he have been if he hadn't destroyed his lungs with marijuana smoke? We'll never know.
