Mine crashes rarely, using FM 5.5 server on linux. Maybe once a year or so it goes down, and I start it up, and watch for damaged files, which I then repair and relaunch.
I've got 5.5 on the Mac. It crashes sometimes 3 times daily, and other times runs for days at a time. It would appear to be something to do with the web server and the db server interacting when people use their accounts online. It has been the source of a lot of frustration lately, for us and our customers.
Also, none of this alters the fact that there are several complaints about lack of support for this product in this thread and evidently no answers or explanations. Where is Shawn?
They've always been poor responding to email/phone in my experiences even when I clearly want to give them money for licenses. Email is useless, the mailing list used to be really good until that was replaced with the forum. I'd keep calling them and leaving messages.
I really hate to press the issue, but its poor practice to actively participate in your own free forum in other threads but fail to attempt to address the concerns of paying customers. I love the forums and appreciate the help you provide, Shawn. However, in the same regards, I think the paying customers have a right to service. When it comes down to it, I wish I was more familiar with the inner workings of OptiGold so I could help with more advanced troubleshooting. Unfortunately, I dont have that knowledge so that leaves us stuck here wondering how to fix software without atleast a hint from its creator.
Funny how the 2 guys who were complaining about the response rate of digitalpoint are now both banned.
Ironic is posting by "DigitalPoint" (Shawn) in other forum topics but not this one. A quick little search reveals "Last Activity: Yesterday 5:25 pm" with his last post being "RSS on DP May 2nd 2007 3:05 pm" Ironic indeed.
What a shame. I really like(d?) Shawn... But what a shitty way to treat your customers. I wonder what Shawn's mom (Robin) would think about him basically ignoring his paying customers? *sigh* Sometimes I just hate getting personally attached in business relationships.
a lot of rambling and assumptions going on, I am sure there is more info that we all are missing here
Any hope of releasing the source to another developer? I'd kinda like to stick with it, but need to know it will be developed further... It's way out of date in a lot of areas.
Warning: There is no support, no keys made available and very limited, if possible, methods to move data from Optigold to another program. New users will be stuck without working software. Existing users will be stuck when they cannot renew or expand their key. As noted by others, numerous phone calls receive the same response from Shawn, "it must have gotten caught in the spam filter. Just give me the domain and I'll pass it on to the admin so it will get through." I don't know who Shawn is, but obviously he has no input to Optigold or admins.
