even if the seller clearly says that no review copies will be given
some oversmart jerks pop up saying that
''can i have a copy for review''
    i really hate that

I guess its called being persistent..Asking for review copies isn't that bad, it saves the rest of us from buying BS..So one review is a must if you ask me..

one should ask for a review copy only if the seller says so.if the seller does not mention anything about the review copy the jerks should be penalised

This seems more like a rant thread, then an input thread..By the looks of your sig you sell ebooks, and someone recently asked you for a review copy?

If I sell an eBook I'll surely give away 1-2 Review Copies to trusted members only
Because their review counts and you get a good response from other people too
Anyways its upto u to give it or not...

You are selling ebooks you got from clickback what do you expect? You can not even say if the book work or not how do you want other people to buy it? I can tell you give trusted members (with a high REP) a changse to see the book then if HE or SHE say WOW what a nice book you order will drop in. And if you not tried the book yourself dont sell it just a tip...

I get offered a lot of books for review, to the extent that I have to turn down requests. I also don't review ebooks any more, just as a way of drawing the line between what I have time to review, and what I don't.

What I can tell you is, no reviewer with a good reputation will ever need to solicit books. I have never done so, that's just not how it works. Authors and publicists come to me, because I have an audience, and I choose to review or not, as my time allows.

So in my view, if someone is asking for a review copy, they are simply looking for a freebie. Established reviewers who are worth your time will already have plenty of offers of freebies to wade through.

Getting your book reviewed by a handful of respected sources is a must, but you should choose carefully. Look for popular websites in your niche and ask the editor for a review, or query print publications about it. Start by asking the most respected sources, and work your way down: you only need a small number of positive reviews to get you going, and to get you a few decent jacket quotes to boost sales.

Well, you don't have to give out review copies, but you should realize that your sales are going to be crap unless you do. From a marketing prospective, it really costs you next to nothing to give out the reviews, but you gain a whole lot in return:

    1) You are demonstrating that you have enough faith in the quality of the ebook that it will get a favorable review.
    2) You are demonstrating that you're a nice person and that you care about your customers.
    3) As long as your product is good, once the reviews come back, sales go through the roof.
    4) Profit

The only thing you accomplish by not giving out samples is lost sales.

That's probably more true when it comes to printed and bound books. With an ebook it's easy enough for someone to copy it illegally and send it to other people. So if you send out a review copy to the wrong person and the book gets pirated, you could end up losing sales.
