Although this is interesting to discuss, this isn't going to happen. WallStreet Journal already stated last Friday that the talks were called off.

The wall street journal doesn't know everything...that just means 'at this time'...not that it will never happen...

    Lets just see
We can chat with Y! messenger users eventhough we have MSN messenger.
And is this all we have in common with MS and yahoo ?

I think this is a great opportunity for Google to show that i is better than those two put together.

This is not a done deal - it's speculative - I wouldn't make plans based on rumor.

    It's not a website; it's a brand and a business.

I think it would be a stupid move on Microsoft's part. Neither them nor Yahoo can compete with Google now combining the companies won't help them. They need to be innovators instead of throwing money at the problem and copying everything G does. As long as they continue to follow Google's every move they will ALWAYS be behind no matter what they are calling themselves these days. I think its about time Microsoft cut their losses on the Internet as they have NEVER been able to make it successful.

In my opinion microsoft is one of the few companies who could buy Yahoo. They were the most profitable company in the country for many years, Not the biggest earner, but the most profitable. They have a lot of extra money lying around.

ergh i duno y microsoft is competing with google.Google is simply a search engine giant thats it.Microsoft has its business spread over different aspects not just internet search.Microsoft's obsession of beating google search will destroy it as a company.

i still tink theres no comparision btw google n microsoft.the only problem with microsoft is that they have forgotten thier strategies and the competitive advantage they have.Looks like they have devoted their resources in competing with google.Instead they should go back to thier old strategy of innovation, competitive advantage and HOW TO BECOME A MARKET LEADER.they can't be all that just by buying out big firms on internet....95% of net surfers still uses INTERNET EXPLORER to access google.....

I really think micorosft ig going down becuz they follow wrong policies...i really need to be there at the Microsoft's board room :p

and yeh no one can be a bigger TECH POWERHOUSE than Microsoft itself.Thats one thing Microsoft can't realize...they are competing with apple, google n god knows what exactly they want....

Google is not just a search engine. Don't underestimate google. Google is the number one online ad server. Have you heard of adsense and adword? Google is also competing with microsoft in the office suite market. Wake up. Microsoft fears google for a reason.

Miscrosoft is bigger than google....microsoft need to be innovative and seek to attack google rather than fear it..anyways i got different approach i wish i was bill gates advisor haha...instead of buying other firms to compete with google M shud use thier HUGE funds towards innovation n use its innovation to attack G ....now if u duno wht i mean by attack then nevamind....Dont tell me u tink M is not innovative...well these days it really isnt...but it can be.....COMPARE google's funds and workforce with M.Google with less funds and employees is posing a threat to microsoft Y? strategy is wht makes google the Big G.Google strated adsense/adwords out of what it already had its Search Engine. Why can't microsoft tink on its own.All they can do is to make duplication of others ideas ZUNE is one clean e.g.they r out of new idea so they r buying firms.

Look at it as Google vs MSN. MSFT as a company does not specialize in SE, but they are obviously interested in it.

50 billion!! They should spend 10% of that on buying some amazing startups and investing in some great ideas.

I don't think they can rely on startups to compete with Google.

When has Microsoft been innovative? DOS was bought from another company. Windows 95 Was copied from Apple. When has Microsoft been innovative? I will give credit where credit is due: Microsoft is good at marketing and marketing is what they do best. Would you buy a car that crashed all the time and need to be updated daily? You would if Microsoft ever sold a car.
