How would you teach someone SEO?

So I have a good old friend of mine that I told him about all the web stuff I do and well it got him very interested (not the web stuff, of course, the money :D ), so now he wants me to teach him :(

Well first thing i did obviously is told him to join this forum, but besides, what would you recommend?

Any books/posts/articles you think that might be helpful?

I learned everything I know about SEO by myself and it was kinda spontaneous and I did a lot of mistakes as well  But I'd like to help him get on with it quickly and start making some money asap :)

    So any tips appreciated

www.seobook.com tell him to get Aaron Wall's ebook :D I recommend it!

I find that posting in the forum with specific forums helps a lot :D Also with reading the posts of course!

Personally, I would just answer questions they have when they come to mind, and probably recommend a good SEO book to read. The best learning is trial and error.

get him a blog made on wordpress!
then use something other than adsense, because you don't want him get banned, as he may click those ads by himself! as a starter it never teach anyone with adsense, when he get's knowledge, then i give him the adsense secret!

then give him a free directory submission and article submission site's list! and ask him to get started with that. also ask him to add articles and posts in his blog as much as he can!

this will be a nice start for him, get him textlinkads, that's a nice alternative! even i use it! let him get some money, and then he will get serious himself!

start him with namepros and v7n forums, he much be well trained before he joines dp, you don't want him get banned in dp either:)

Maybe you could get a site started for him, and then assign him tasks gruadually and ask him to carry them out on his blog / websites. This way, you will be only instructing him, or guiding him in the right path, and he can spend a little time on the forums etc to get more details about the assigned task and learn how to do it himself, or by taking help from sites/forums/ebooks etc.

Maybe for starters ask him to create a blog then along the way teach him the things on how he can optimize his blog. Buying a beginner's book could be a good suggestion since you would want him to know the basics first then refer to articles or tutorials on the net for further learnings/comparison :)

do you think that is why so many people have been saying it is easy to get banned on adsense, because they click there own ads? I have been reading on dp more and more about people getting banned from adsense, and dont put all your eggs in one basket and so now I am worried that adsense might ban me for some reason. I do not click my own ads (hell I havent got any clicks) so if you don't click your own ads, are you safe?

I would teach him by letting him ask questions, and then you seeing if you can answer them...trial and error works well also...:D
