"Google will still be number one. It's hard to compete with such a huge company."

Not really; or rather only if you want to do everything. Individual companies definitely do most things better than most big companies. The truth is, it's hard to compete with such a strong business model; google is #1 because they do an amazing service for free, not because they're a big company.

If Microsoft buys Yahoo! They would have to bring it down. Yahoo runs on FreeBSD and MySQL.

    Hmmm,
I dont think microsoft will beat Google when they buy yahoo. Google will still remain the premier search engine on the web.

Search engines come and go, remember when Askjeevs and Astalavista where the kings? i admit, Google has found a way to turn them into cash cows.
But there will always be someone else who can improve them beyong our wildest dreams and smash the competition.

I think this sucks for us, not for Yahoo as $50-70 billion in their bank sounds great. Microsoft wasnt able to fix their scew ups with live/msn search; God knows what they will do to Yahoo.

yes but for how long? You cannot argue that history repeats itself and that sooner or later someone IS going to come along and overthrow google from its throne, its guranteed.
