http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSCOL46069720070504 The argument that it's bad for your lungs is history if you use a vaporizor. Maybe this is why they're trying so desperately to prove the short term anxiety you feel from smoking it causes "Reefer Madness", aka "Schizophrenia caused by smoking Marijuana", again. Too bad there's no real evidence linking pot to those kinds of long term effects any more then something like watching a scary movie which also produces some anxiety.
its says its temporary as in , while you are high drinking a 5th of liquer makes you more crazy it makes you retarded
Marijuana does indeed trigger psychosis in many people. Others it does not. Marijuana lovers cannot seem to admit that. I don't particularly have anything against it but I know for a fact it does have that effect. Cannabis tends to intensify whatever you are already feeling. If you already feel fearful then the likely outcome when smoking is full blown paranoia. Schizophrenia is a fear based brain disease. All symptoms, delusions, hallucinations etc are based on out of control fears that someone or something is out to get you. If someone is headed in that direction in thier mind then marijuana will act as a catalyst to promote those fears thereby contributing to the disease, but not causing it out right. Having said that marijuana is healthier and safer than booze in my opinion. The old weed was more natural than these super potent weeds that have been been bred the last 50 years. Less potent weed could be used more medicinally. The THC content being so high has contributed to the bad reputation. It's like comparing grain alcohol to wine.
I don't know many pot smokers who don't admit that when you first start smoking it at least you get paranoid. Some worse then others, yes. Nobody disagrees with that, it's just the fact of tying it to long term mental illness that is hard to believe. For one reason, it's never been scientifically shown. For another reason, you know what's causing the paranoia which makes it just kind of funny... you just smoked a big joint, of course you're going to be paranoid, same as if you just went to a horror movie and you're sensitive to them. I don't see anyone trying to link horror movies to causing schizophrenia to come out in a person. It's that devil weed instead! Haha, now that I think of it, why didn't they compare the brain scans to brain scans of people watching that old "Reefer Madness" propaganda movie and see how similar the results were. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bM_vLk1I6G4 There's a couple problems with that comparison. One: You didn't follow it all the way through and realize that people don't smoke near as much to get high with the more potent stuff, thus actually making it healthier because they don't have to ingest as much plant material and toxins compared to the THC in it. Two: There is a significant difference because you can overdose and die from grain alcohol, but you can't from even the most potent weed. I don't know about the legal synthetic pill version of thc that is prescribed, maybe you can O.D. on that, but oddly nobody attacks the pill anyway.
I'm too high on life to disagree. I meditated and prayed and read this morning so I'm just feelin peaceful. I don't disagree. I am very anti horror movie I will very rarely watch one, I don't think Mj or horror movies are especially healthy. I never remember paranoia as being funny, thats an odd statement. But maybe some people do. 22 years ago I was a meth junky and meth users tend to have similar hallucinations (to other meth users). One recurrent one I have heard is small trolls or evil faces. The other night I read a girls story that she faced these creatures (trolls and baby with a demons face) in her hallucinations and she thought it was kinda funny but at the same time she vowing to never never again use meth. (not trying to compare Mj with meth...just the paranoia etc...) My memories of paranoia and hallucinations were not pleasant. But if people enjoy smoking the weed I don't care.
There's no doubt that its bad for you, but to be honest, we have significantly more dangerous substances available to buy freely and legally right now.
I so agree! Oxycontin, Lora-tabs are far more dangerous and addictive than Pot. I can't tell you how many people I know whose lives are ruined by these "pain killers" doctors so eagerly prescribe. I say leave the pot heads alone and go after the doctors.
My personal annoyance is how much of a pain in the butt it is now to get pseudoephedrine because the government is trying to crack down on meth manufacture. Phenylephrine sucks and the war on drugs sucks too. It's my body, I own it and I can destroy it if I want to.
absolute rubbish. The outer dome of the vapouriser soon gets coated with sticky resins - just like in your lungs. It may be safer than smoking other ways, but it is still VERY bad for you. Coating your lungs will oily residues IS 100% a bad idea. Particulary if you do it every day..... Search the web for Bhang Lassie, or learn to bake....... and yes it does trigger mental problems in some - most other cultures who use psychedelics have shamans to help them understand what they are experiencing. Our shamans are not usually at hand for kids dabbling... just our jaded celebrity/wealth/war/ego fuelled society that breeds fear and panic inside them. Perhaps a number of the milder mental problems experienced by young people would be absent if they were getting stoned in the context of a Hindu religeous festival, or an Ayahuasca trip with shamans in the rainforest.
If the antidrug groups are right. Why haven't the 7 medical MJ users who are on federal MJ and smoke 10 joints a day dead?
I'm not sure that any of the anti-drug groups claim that marijuana will kill you. But, there are a lot of bad things that can happen to you other than dying. So what do they claim? The only anti-drug organization I could think of is D.A.R.E.; they pointed me to streetdrugs.org. Here's the straight dope: SHORT TERM EFFECTS of marijuana use include impaired short-term memory, impaired concentration, attention, and judgment; impaired coordination and balance, increased heart rate, blood shot or red eyes, dry mouth and increased appetite (the "munchies"). * Occasional effects, especially with long term use, include anxiety, panic, and paranoia. LONG TERM EFFECTS of marijuana use include addiction (psychological), paranoia, persistent anxiety, impaired learning skills and memory difficulties. MEDICAL COMPLICATIONS associated with marijuana use include an increased risk of chronic cough, bronchitis, and emphysema; increased risk of cancer of the head, neck, and lungs; a decrease in testosterone levels and lower sperm counts for men and an increase in testosterone levels for women and increased risk of infertility. Additional Information from NIDA: * Within a few minutes after inhaling marijuana smoke, an individual's heart begins beating more rapidly, the bronchial passages relax and become enlarged, and blood vessels in the eyes expand, making the eyes look red. The heart rate, normally 70 to 80 beats per minute, may increase by 20 to 50 beats per minute or, in some cases, even double. This effect can be greater if other drugs are taken with marijuana. * Studies show that approximately 6 to 11 percent of fatal accident victims test positive for THC. In many of these cases, alcohol is detected as well. In a study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a moderate dose of marijuana alone was shown to impair driving performance; however, the effects of even a low dose of marijuana combined with alcohol were markedly greater than for either drug alone. Driving indices measured included reaction time, visual search frequency (driver checking side streets), and the ability to perceive and/or respond to changes in the relative velocity of other vehicles. * Cancer of the respiratory tract and lungs may also be promoted by marijuana smoke. A study comparing 173 cancer patients and 176 healthy individuals produced strong evidence that smoking marijuana increases the likelihood of developing cancer of the head or neck, and that the more marijuana smoked, the greater the increase. A statistical analysis of the data suggested that marijuana smoking doubled or tripled the risk of these cancers. * Marijuana has the potential to promote cancer of the lungs and other parts of the respiratory tract because it contains irritants and carcinogens.42 In fact, marijuana smoke contains 50 percent to 70 percent more carcinogenic hydrocarbons than does tobacco smoke.43 It also produces high levels of an enzyme that converts certain hydrocarbons into their carcinogenic form, levels that may accelerate the changes that ultimately produce malignant cells.44 Marijuana users usually inhale more deeply and hold their breath longer than tobacco smokers do, which increases the lungs' exposure to carcinogenic smoke. These facts suggest that, puff for puff, smoking marijuana may increase the risk of cancer more than smoking tobacco does.
The effects which seemed important to me were: LONG TERM EFFECTS of marijuana use include addiction (psychological), paranoia, persistent anxiety, impaired learning skills and memory difficulties. Thinking is very important to me. Long-term marijuana users do not, in my experience, think very well.
