Never underestimate the power of a well constructed website that adheres to SEO like a religion.
This is the single most productive form of traffic you can have.

great post, thanks for sharing the exact style you have been using for your site. so THANK YO again.

I have a couple of questions.

how many unique visitors you get ? 5000 per day ?
what is your clicks average ? 200-400 ?
    what is your CTR ? 2% ?
    what is you ePCM ? 1.0 ?

I know its all about traffic, but just curious for making something like $3000 per month, how much traffic (unique visitors per day) you need to have...

I hope you answers these questions.
    cheers

I have previously answered all these questions please review the thread before asking the same questions.

    In short I get 10,000+ visitors a day, ~30,000 impressions, ~2000 clicks, 5-10% CTR.

5-10% CTR is very optimistic and good.

Sorry about the late reply - but 5% isn't that optimistic if you are integrating your ad well. I have sections of my sites that pull 20 - 25%, but as an average a 5-10% is pretty achievable I think, but people need to be willing to be aggressive with their ads.

I agree that you have to be aggressive with your ads, but when do you draw the line. I personally hate those sites that the first thing you see before you get to the content is adsense ads. This is probably a reason why I don't make as much money as i could.

20-25% ratio? You should right a book, many people would buy it.

    I am averaging about .05 - 1%

To be completely honest I have considered it and quite a few people have even approached me about it, but at the end of the day it comes down to the simple fact of where will I get a better return on my time - developing and building my sites or writing an ebook?

Now I'm not suggesting that in the future I won't potentially do something like this, but I think it is in my own best interests to stick with what I know and continue to build and develop my sites for the time being. Over the next few months I plan to start employing a few people to reduce my work load and increase my available time for research and side projects - like ebook writing and blogging etc.

Well I think it all comes down to value of content/service/product.

So say you have the world greatest content on your site that no one else seems to be able to offer and it is available for people to read for FREE people aren't going to be pissed off with lots of ads because they are reading the worlds greatest content, because the value they gain from the content far exceeds the negative of having to view ads. So whilst there might be lots of ads shown they will still generally leave the site thinking - "man that site had awesome information".

Now on the flip side - if offer what is essentially "average" content that offers nothing of great value then people will look at all the ads and go - "this site is a joke and is only interested in making money".

Great content will always get people telling others about it regardless of the ads on the site, whereas crap or average content won't have anyone telling anyone about even if there are no ads on the site at all.

I main aim of the game is to "profitably, satisfy customers".

So people need to find the tipping point where people are willing to accept the ads shown because they believe the content on the site to be worth it.

What needs to be remembered is that your niche will have a MASSIVE impact on the maximum CTR you can achieve, regardless of where you position your ads and how 'aggressive' you are.

Burta has outlined what he has done to achieve his results, so the book is already written right here! :) It's the same info you'll find anywhere in these forums. The real formula for his success though is the focus of his niche and more importantly, huge traffic :)

Burta, have you had much success outside of your core niche? I imagine the CTRs would be a lot lower and the traffic harder to get?

Well it sort of depends how you look at it.

See I haven't really moved into new industries per se, but I have started a few, relatively successful sites in different niches but they are sort of within the same industry if that makes sense. So they are not too far deviated from my original sites.

Thanks for the honest response :) There's absolutely nothing wrong with that - in fact, it's the smart thing to do. When you're onto a good thing then run with it :) Keeping in a similar niche is the best way to leverage your current successful sites :)

You know this obviously, so I guess I'm writing to the general audience.. :)

Burta, I am just starting out in publishing online. Other than the advice you've given in your first post... Do you have any specific advice for newbies?

LOL I have loads and loads of advice - but unfortunately only a few hours in the day so I can't site here an write a novel on everything I know and believe. But at the end of the day I think all success comes down to this:

Providing a valuable content, product or service which results in creating "profitably satisfied customers". I mean no one minds paying money for a god quality product or service that genuinely improves their lives. And no one minds if you are making money by showing ads on your site providing valuable information content that improves people's knowledge and thus lives.

So good quality and a commitment to profitably solving people problems and turning them into "profitably satisfied customers" is what I believe to be the underlining principle of success.

I'd highly recommend that you read some of my other posts if you are interested in getting my views on things. A lot of my more recent posts tend to be me just ranting on tangents...
