I couldn't agree more... Of course, we have our own reasons. Perhaps it's because raising this breed gives them more challenge and that's just what they want. --Joe
You're biased. I could say, "Why can't Canada set stricter immigration laws, my school president was jut elected because 90% of the school is Korean, not because he can do anything within it."
Thats so wrong, I think you should only have a pet only if youre going to love and care for that pet. Its not fair the way people treat dogs....
I just think unless you live in a very rural location Big dogs that are capable of tearing your face off are a bad idea. I live near a couple that have a studio apartment and they share it with two big alsations. Not a great idea!!! http://www.pupmart.co.uk
Right... My grandma (a frail old lady) lives downtown and owns two rottweilers. She has never had a problem with either of them. I even used to ride on their backs when I was a baby. If that isn't gentle I don't know what is. The whole pitbulls are dangerous argument is BS. A bad owner can make any dog vicious, breed is irrelevant.
Dogs learn behavior. If you starve and kick the $hit out of an animal - yes it will at some point snap and attack out of fear. The problem doesn't lay with the breed of a dog or the location of a dog, the problem lays with the owners who have tough the dog that violent behavior is acceptable. If a person is continually treated badly eventually they will lash out and go crazy. If a child learns it is ok to hit other children what do you think he is going to do when he gets upset? In regards to pitbulls especially; you should do a little research on the breed before condemning it. To all the breed haters - I bet you actually believe that pits jaws lock? It really is upsetting to see such closed minds in this day and age. Read: http://www.austinlostpets.com/kidskorner/2October/pitbull.htm
i have a boxer that weighs around 90 lbs, he has a little pit bull in him. so he looks mean but he's not. best dog i ever had. i have heard in the news where Massachusetts may ban the pit bull breed from the state.
I'm currently counting down the days now until my bitch delivers a new batch of baby boxers 9 Days and counting!
My original post was asking why not just own other breeds? If a state bans Pits, Rottweillers, Dobermans, Canarios, and any other breed that is associated with danger would the breeds that replace them have the same frequency of problems? Would we start to hear about Boxer, Bloodhound, Collie, and Labradoodle attacks? I doubt that we would see the attacks stay at the same level so why not just go to other breeds like Boxers before bans?
What makes you think the problem would go away? Bad dog owners/breeders would just move on to one of the other "vicious" breeds.
A pit bull is a low end breed which gets breed to both agress parents. So- therefore when breed will breed aggress off springs. If you breed a non agress female to a non agress male than you will have some great pit bulls. When I breed- I breed only to non agress males. If i did breed a agress bulldog i will have to have it put down. That's the only way to handle this type of breeds. So, its not the pit bull problems-its the low scum breeders! Pardon my Pun. They should take action and not allow such ppl breed them.
Pit bulls have breeding that make them more dangerous period. They are bred to have personality traits such as agressiveness. I own a Miniature Pincher and it also has behaviors that are difficult to overcome but exist nonetheless. Minpins are German dogs bred to kill rats and it will always chase small animals no matter what I do. It also has other irritating characteristics bred into it, but these are not of mortal danger to child or smaller dog. Same thing with pits they are bred to kill other animals (children and defensless dogs and cats are animals) and kill viciously with unrelenting power and its hard to stop em once they get in kill mode. Its not that you cannot train one to be gentle but there is always an underlying danger that never goes away....its genetic period. Its a no brainer, I don't like em (that doesn't mean I havn't befriended them or won't pet them) and when I see a young man with one I see only a scared rabbit afraid to fight for himself. In his eyes it makes him tough but everyone else knows he is a coward.
I have a mini pitbull (an English Staffordshire Bull Terrier. They're about 30 - 35lbs) and even see can be a handfull. She's extremely well trained, but her instinct to attack/kill animals smaller then her has made it impossible to take her out to public dog parks. Although, she does love cats...go figure. Other then that, she's awesome . Pitbulls can be the greatest dogs if trained and loved properly. The problem is that any moron can get a pitbull. There should definately be some sort of restriction on who can own one. Some people (myself included) have dogs for protection, not just some slobbering little yappy fluff ball. If you walked into my house and my dog didn't recognize you, he would probably rip your face off, and he's not a pitbull... MinPins are so hilarious. They think they are big dogs.
Bullshit. Heritable traits do not pass on such genes as 'aggressive behaviour.' I could train a poodle to rip your throat out, yet 10 minutes after it's done so, someone will walk by, and say "Aw, a poodle, adorable." Bulldogs have been deemed vicious. Stereotyping hurts everyone, even if non-human.
You're wrong. Aggressiveness is a dominant trait in some dog breeds. And by the way, poodles are know to be an aggressive breed as well, so perhaps that's not the best example
And even he is a handful, I cannot imagine trying to control a pit bull in the park. And I would not say I would never own one under very ideal circumstances. It might be a rescued dog and I live in an isolated/secure area. The pits I have liked are great dogs but I was very aware of their potential. (good and bad) To the other guy who lives this fantasy that agressiveness in not inhertiable I say bullshit....my Minpin has an agressive nature towards rats, I didn't teach it to him, the delusion that he is very large not 20lbs etc etc. as the lady above knew that my Minpin thinks he is a large dog...how did she know that? She knows the breed. Its amazing what can be bred into dogs. Poodles don't have jaws of steel and rippling muscles......
wow a heavy topic, a person likes what they see, I like the look of a pit bull, a muscular stalky stance....show me another dog that looks like it then Id want one too... Not all pits are bad, I know plenty that are great dogs that lived long happy playful lives without hurting anyone....out of the millions of pits you only get a few attacks, mostly from dumb people....
