Those who managed to start successful Social networking sites, what do you think would be a good idea? Another clone of digg, delicious or myspace probably wouldn't catch on, but how about niche related social sites, or is it all just about advertising and even another copy of digg may succeed with a high enough advertising budget? Lets see some constructive thoughts on this
don't try making another digg unless it is targeted for a very specific niche. that goes with social networking also.. everything social right now is very competitive, and if you target the masses you will probably fail, since large companies with huge budgets are even having trouble with social networks.
Social networking sites are competitive but everyone thinks you cant make anymore money there but YES you can. Everyone thinks that you have to be big like myspace to be sucessful. If you get 1% of traffic that myspace gets you will be rich!
Competitive, yes. However, that's applying to general sites similar to that. However, there is great potential for more specific niches for those types of sites.. such as a digg type site for ONLY fashion related news and so on.
well I'm one of them who still believes there's a market. Perhaps it will never really grow as big as the main 3~4 sites we all know but yes there's still a market. Also I posted this under 'other tools' I've been looking around and there are some interesting free/paid templates for a complete online community site (including forums, news, personal homepages). do you guys know of any good ones?
You can target a certain area,.. Country, State, Town perhaps. these things work this way. I have started one with one of my friends targeting my own country.
