How often does one just toss in a few broad keywords to a campaign that has no relation to the ad you are creating just to hit some traffic out there in hope to get some clicks? worth or not worth doing?
If i am paying for adwords i want people who are looking for what i am selling. I find some keywords for product that i can get for low cost and use them.
Would be like buying an ad for your hearing aid store on an alternative rock radio station aimed at teenagers.
If you've got a compelling advert for a product that just about everyone wants, it may just about make some kind of sense. Or if the demographic is right - advertising hearing aids at an event aimed at old people... But just throwing in random keywords doesn't sound like a very good marketing strategy - you should be able to spend it better elsewhere...
Devils advocate: is there any harm to doing this? What if you dont mind spending 2.00 extra dollars a day for a few potential random clicks? I mean its an act of god to get people to even click on these ads anyway isnt it?
It's a waste of $2, and it pushes all of the adverts that WERE relevant for that keyword down a position. I'd feel a little miffed if I'd worked hard to get my advert profitable in 3rd place, and somebody plonked their completely irrelevant advert above me. I'm not sure that luck or Acts Of God play that much part in people clicking on your adverts...
it most defintly is not worth it. You would be literally throwing your money away. if some one is searching for tips on how to buy a used car and your ad comes up talking about get your hosue cleaned it would be stupid. dont just throw some random keywords into a campain
Your CTR will suffer, so to will your quality score and ultimately your account level quality score. THAT is harmful.
