It tells you nothing because Alexa tool bar is only used by some IE users. So it doesn't give any data about total unique visits to site.

Nah, it does tell something. Extremely inaccurate? Yes, but something is still better than none.

I use the toolbar that's why my blog has a high alexa... and oh I made a train, and the goal is to improve your alexa rankings by using redirects.. if you want to join just start copying the rules and add someone new :) You can see the post here

If I were you.. try aiming a higher alexa ranking.. Many advertisers and people are depending on it so even though it's inaccurate. But hey, you can't blame Alexa, It's the only public site that gives you traffic stats of millions of sites for free.

The tool bar at : http://www.quirk.biz/searchstatus/

Seemingly affects the rating as well, and is for FireFox.

Though you are right, it does not give true data of unique visitors, it only monitors visitors with one of the tool bars. As very few have such a tool bar, the numbers are certainly skewed.

With an Alexa of around 13k I think you must have pretty big traffic - I would estimate at least 10k - if the site has a webmaster theme the numbers are the most skewed in my experience - ie webmaster sites or heavily optimized sites tend to have higher rankings regardless of traffic

one of my sites gets 4000 unique per day and its got 39,968

I guess the toolbar has a big part to play in the statistics.

It really completely varies... My forum currently has an alexa rank of 98,845 and I only get about 100-200 uniques daily.

Noo.... I never put a toolbar on my site, and I certainly don't have a widget on it.
:| My rank is 259,000. Was in the 900k's when I started :S

You don't need to. It's your visitors that have it that improve your ranking. The entire system revolves around ways Alexa can track your page...the suggestions I gave are currently the typical ways.

Your site is improving in Alexa Ranks because it would seem you are getting more uniques from people with the toolbar installed, or you are getting more repeat visitors from those with it.

Either way though, congrats on the climb from 900,000 to 259,000!

In terms of Alexa rankings: ranking is in favor of Yahoo not Google 'coz Yahoo has the number 1* while Google has number 3*. I think Alexa is Yahoo associate? what do you think?

    Do you see the difference?

I think yahoo generally gets more visitors per day than google if I'm not mistaken although you have to remember it's ranked by domain, so each google (.de,.au,.co.uk,etc..) are all seperate rankings so if they were put them together, google would surely be number 1
