MSN was the most reliable soruce for checking backlinks but they suddenly turn it off. MSN Search says that due to some abuses of the system they have deactivate link: command. What abuse could be done? Somebody wants to check the number of backlinks and use this service. .
Go to Google and enter link:digitalpoint.com and you will get a list of some backlinks to digitalpoint.com. The problem is that Google intentionally doesn't show all the backlinks but MSN did until a few days ago. .
it was abused... their was a workaround by using the asciicode for linkdomain: but even that appears to be dead now
Thankyou for that link, very useful, The backlink issue they have had for atleast 2 months now I have noticed
Who said you MSN is most reliable source to check backlinks? IMO MSN doesn't show all the backlinks, the best tool is yahoo site explorer. They show almost al the backlinks to a page/site.
Thank you for the link and it is informative . Until now the MSN Live Search query syntax link: as well as linkdomain: and inurl: from it's search results can no longer check your backlinks in MSN.However, we used other seo tool for link popularity such as HotBot (powered by MSN Live Search) and you can still view the backlinks. They disable the link because they want to improve the functionality just like Yahoo and Google
In my opinion if you ask about the backlinktool I would suggest you to login to your google sitemap and see the links(it's not updated always but frequently updated and gives you good results). Yahoo site explorer is also good. Msn was gone before I even tried it, and I guess they guys wont reopen it
Awstats shows me the ones that are important. And Google's webmaster tools / site overview shows anchor text.
MSN will never activate the link: function 'coz it's being abused by some users... i have read an article that it is used for Mining DATA that's why they disable it....Google also don't show all the backlinks... some links only when you use the link:yoursite.com...
But Yahoo shows the Nofollow links as well, MSN shows the exact right amount of links which Google takes into consideration to Pagerank you up. IT
