If this was any other company people would be screaming spyware. Think about it. Google collects your browsing habits, personal interests, scans your emails, and builds a comprehensive browsing profile in order to better serve you ads. It's not just their search though. Google Analytics is installed on a large amount sites, combine that with their recent acquisition of DoubleClick (one of the largest spyware companies of all time) and they now pretty much have as much information as the CIA does on each individual. Oh, and Google has been documented working with the CIA. So what have I done? I have boycotted all Google services, I've installed Adblock Plus so that I don't receive their ads, and I've disabled javascript and cookies on most sites. Screw these multi-billion dollar corporations trying to mine my data and giving me nothing but ads in return. If someone wants to pay me to study my surfing habits, then I am all for it, but I am completely against spyware companies such as Google leveraging my data to make a profit while eroding my privacy. Besides, the Yahoo search algorithm is now better than Google's in my opinion.
I've installed the Google Desktop, analytics, Google Co-op onto my site, Picaso, GMail, and several other tools which all make me part of the machine. Google know what kind of sites I visit, what pr0n I like best, who I talk to, what message groups I'm a member of... Google knows more about me then my own mother! I'd not be surprised if you got red repped for such a comment. How dare you compare such a WONDERFUL company like Google to something as horrible as Spyware! Actually, as the days creep along, and I find myself becoming more & more dependent upon Google I'm starting to ponder the wisdom of such full integration. I mean, isn't this how the Matrix started
Thanks for the info. Yes google tracks the computer activity thats why I make it sure my google account is logged out
Think about it: how many spyware applications give the user anything back in exchange for their data? How many are installed surreptitiously, without the end user's knowledge or consent ... versus typing gmail.com into the address bar?
Remember they ask you for permission to track you activities to improve their services. I believe that for now, but what will happen later on?
Google keeps the data for improvements of its search engine system, and it's kept for a year and a half. After that any personal data gets deleted, so no need to worry. Besides, I'm not searching for keywords like "make bomb" or "blow up america", to worry about. The terrorists should worry.
