I have been doing some research and I am near on positive that pop up links do not pass as much Google juice as regular links and I have seen a couple rock solid examples of pop ups not passing as much PR, I am trying to remember where I have seen this and I will post back with an example, if you do some digging around I think you will find that my theory is correct, I believe they still pass link juice but not as much, anyone agree or disagree? Besides that directories are also supposed to guide people to sites anyway and pop ups can be annoying. Edit - Yes I have found the example - One of my clients sites www.ashmanmeyer.com at the recent update he got a PR5, now at the bottom of his homepage there are links to three pop up pages, these three pages got PR4, here is one for you to check out: http://www.ashmanmeyer.com/jobs-in-estate-agency.htm All of the other pages linked from the homepage and all other pages bar the pop ups got a PR5 but the three pop ups only got a PR4, these three pages were set up long before the PR update before last, so there you have it rock solid proof that pop up links do not pass as much PR, if you want to sort the people out who are submitting to your directory then disable pop up links, from now on I will be looking at this when I am choosing dirs!
If I see a pop up on any site regardless of subject I exit and all my team are the same and as I have worked on the net every day for over 10 years thats a lot of sites that I have exited Arguably the biggest turn off on the net are pop-ups
I always switch my security settings off when reviewing. Any pop-ups or unders, too many flashing lights etc get refused.
Yaa they annoy everyone , got to any adult site and u will wana quit that site before actually being able to see any chicks lol. cheers
I think a couple of you have got me wrong, there are quite a few directories, good ones as well that have it so that when you click to go to a site in the directory the website pops up rather then it just taking you straight through to the website, what I am saying is that these directories do not offer as much link value because of this and that they should change their settings so that the links to the websites are regular links and not pop up links.
Dave let me try and explain.... Its ANNOYING SHIT! Get rid of that crap or you wont be getting any submits from us or for that matter any support. thx have a nice day. thx malcolm
Hmm, now i know how to torture u , just keep sending u pms and u will go nutty. Never tell ur weakness out in the public.
what the original poster intended to say is that links with target="_blank" Code (markup): attribute on an <a> Code (markup): tag in your html code, pass less PR than the ones that take you to the link target directly (without opening a new window). Now, as far as I can see, all those pages are PR5, even the ones that are linked from the footer and open in a new window.
I'd like to also say, Thumbnail previews are also popups. They aggravate me terrible and I'm sure I'm not alone.
Oh yes i know what u mean check iwebtool it annoys me now with those popups when ur mouse moves over a link.
I'm not sure I follow you - are you saying that links utilizing target="_blank" pass less PR and you're using the links on the above page as an example of them not passing the same PR as the links that open in the same window? Seems to me the Estate Agency Vacancies link is PR5 as well as the Estate Agency Recruitment link; both of which use target="_blank" If your theory were correct, the Privacy Policy page should also be a PR5? Only one page that opens in a new window is PR4, but then again so is one of the pages that opens in the same window. Sorry, but I disagree.
Those can be disabled. When one pops up, in the upper right corner there is a link that says "disable" click it and get rid of them for good
