I've recently read this philosophical but interesting question: Can your God create a heavy rock he can't lift? It'll be interesting to hear your views on that Just to remind you that one of the most important attribute of any god is omnipotence. In the dictionary Omnipotence means, having the power to do anything with no limits "unlimited power".
Of course he has the power to limit his own power. That would be included in "unlimited power". Would he do it? that's a better question, and one that nobody but God can answer. Also interesting is if he did limit his own power, would he have the ability to get it back again... say he decided to limit his power of regaining power, after he created a rock he can't lift. I suppose since his power is unlimited, he could just go back in time and change his decision to create a rock he can't lift. I think the philosophical contradiction with the question comes from thinking of God as being bound by our rules of physics. The weight of a rock has no meaning to God if he's lifting it because he wouldn't be using physical strength. It is a very old but fun question to ponder.
isn't the real question: can kafer pose a question that hasn't been asked before by every philosopher teacher on the planet?
So just because it has been asked before, you think I have no right to ask it again? Don't we all ask the same question "Does god exist?" at one stage or another. Every one has an opinion on that matter, regardless of whether the question has been asked or discussed before or not. So do you think your god is Omnipotent or not?
Well if he could then he wouldn't be able to lift it! ==>limited power There are so many useless rocks in the universe why did he create them?
Humm, than maybe your right. But-maybe its all in the mind-he can not lift cus he did not want to. Useless rocks are what makes up the universe such as planet earth and millions of others.
Does that prove anything about God? no, all it proves is that humans will do anything possible to limit the abilities of God.
If I was a believer I would say that yes he can build a rock he cannot lift. Then, when he wants to lift it he can break it into a million pieces and lift them individually.
The answer is very simple, can you lift yourself the same way you can lift a stone ? There are many things which God cannot do, God cannot lie, God cannot cheat.
God is the rock, referred to many times in the scriptures, also known as the chief corner stone among others.
Why does everyone give credit to a god for the things MAN has done? Selling yourselves short by thinking god provided everything is a bad trend that devalues the good mankind has done. Similarly, blaming the devil for the bad things makes it seem as if man is less evil. God wouldn't care about some little ape men he created, and he wouldn't care what we did. If existing in the sense you all have of him - he's way too goddamn busy with a trillion other worlds to devote his time to just one place. And if he does exist, don't you think he might be just a little sick? "I created man because I felt like it. Whee, they're killing each other! Hey Martha! Come here and look at earth, I got the little buggers to start another war in my name! Go get the jello snacks!" ...how can anyone attribute god for being good, then say he works in mysterious ways, without seeing the fact hes like a 10 year old with a magnifying glass atop a giant ant hill. Hence, the only god that does exist probably doesn't care what we do. If he did care, and I mean really care, he'd blow earth up and just get it over with. That whole crap about having to suffer is nonsense, you think any god that made a creature in his image then subjected him to the struggles of the world, only to pop in like a VH1 bubble with the bloop noise occasionally could be some good glorious being? If that was even the case he's playing The Sims - Humans. Think about it before you go on another old tired tried and true tirade about how "oh look, he just hasn't found god yet" or some other brainwashed force fed religion spew. The only reason 99% of man already in religions believe in god is that they grew up in a household with religion, and thus were controlled and fed morals by a long established cult to spread its word, and give it money. Donations built the Vatican. You think Christ would have wanted something like the Vatican? I doubt that - I bet he'd rather have people assemble in a great simple area that was easy to listen in, talk quietly about the things that concerned him that were not good and could be fixed, then dismiss once everyone had a say. I very much doubt he'd care for a minister spewing out hate for anyone, in his name.
I'm sure God could close this thread if he wanted to...but hey, again, why are we trying to figure out just how strong God is? Keep it simple, nothing is stronger than God...
