Hey guys I bought this site here and have done some extra work to it. Just looking to see what you think about it. http://www.freemmorpg.us I still have some work to go, including changing the domain and adding a better header with drop down menu links and more in depth news coverage.
The header and right menu needs to be seperated from the content area.. placing it all in the same background colors makes it look like one huge page. So, I would add a light grey/glossy background for your header, and then a darker grey for the right site of your site.
You may want to roll out your changes slowly if the site already ranks in the engines b/c any drastic changes you make could adversly effect your SER. I agree with the comments on the dark background. It's a little tough to read currently.
I did roll out the recent changes over a few months. I added more news sources and finally got a listing of free games up. When i bought the site it ranked 3rd on yahoo for "free mmorpg news" and since has dropped to 7th, but I think that will change again in the future as I add more news feeds. I will take the redesign changes into consideration, but probably won't do a redesign until the end of the summer. The changes I am implementing before then are: 1. add user accounts where users can sign up and receive updates from the news sources of their choice. 2. add game specific pages for news coverage of the top games like wow, everquest, eve, guild wars etc... 3. get a new header with nav links. 4. re-brand site as "TotalMMORPG.com" or "AllMMORPG.com" (haven't decided on the strongest name yet) 5. redirect "freemmorpg.us" to the "free mmorpg games list" 6. add forum rss from forum integrated with the site. 7. possible redesign (might bump this up a little) appreciate all of the feedback. keep it coming
I disagree - I like dark backgrounds and the colors (yellow and white) work well for the text - I think something you could do to improve the site would be to have a summary on the top explaining what the site is about to better orient people, in one or two sentences.
