Buying Traffic?

I'm sure everyone has seen people selling web traffic. Businesses claiming that they can send a certain number of visitors to your site.....blah blah blah.

How do they do it? Does it work? Has anyone ever done this? Is it against the TOS of any PPC advertising services?

I was thinking about trying it as I have a new site with zero traffic. It would be easy for me to track.

There are many ways that they do it. Some redirect traffic, some pay people to click, my site uses an exchange of traffic.

Yes I have done it :) But you need to choose some decent places to advertise. Go with a reputable company if you want to use it, and make sure that you target your campaign appropriately.

Last question is, yes. It is against TOS of some ppc companies, like Adsense. I think most of the others allow this kind of traffic though. I know that adbrite allows it.

Adwords and similiar programs are okay. The rest are scams and worthless.

I have to object to you calling my business a scam! The auto-surfs gave all traffic exchanges a bad reputation, which is very unfair. There are, however some very good quality sites out there that offer a great service, that is free to access.

If a site is managed well, and you target your advertising for people who are surfing - you can do very well, and I constantly receive testimonials of people who have great success using my site.

No, not all are scams, and no they are definitely not all worthless.
