How do I transfer my email account from my old host to my new host with all my messages in my inbox intact?

Personally, I will download all the mails before setting up the new account at the new host.

But I guess the other way is if you are transferring from a Cpanel to Cpanel account, you can do a backup of the entire site at the old host and then restore it at the new host, not only do not get all your emails intact, the site files, stats and everything would be retained too.

Shouldn't this have been a question to ask before you move hosts?
Use an email client like outlook express.
Then use the ip address of your old domain's host, along with the username/password. This is assuming you have already changed hosts

I didn't mind though as at the moment I'm transferring my sites now I just realized about my inbox in my email account so i wasn't able to ask this before transferring host.

I don't have much idea on outlook express.
Do you mean I will download my messages from my email account to outlook and then upload them to my new email account in my new host?

Sorry but I really don't have any idea

Well once you've downloaded the emails you won't be able to upload them.
They will have to stay in outlook

sweetangel, if you have downloaded all your emails you might want to ask your webhost for the help in restoring them up in your inbox.

One more thing you can do that will mess up your all inbox is you make a rule in out look for "forwarding all mails having your id in TO: field" if you make this rule all mails will be sent back to your inbox with the problem that the sender name of every email will be you yourself and the actual sender can be seen in the body of the mail.

I don't think of any otherway out except importing/exporting or backup/restoring.

Someone suggested me about sending my inbox to gmail and change mx records, something of that sort I just can't understand how it goes.

If not, I'll follow what you have said imnajam

If you are using outlook express,

    Go to

    Tools>Email Accounts>Add New Email Account

Here you set up the email account, giving the necessary details given by your webhost. If you are using cpanel, you can get outlook settings from the Email accounts section.

Once you add email account, download all emails, (Just click send/receive button)

Now after you shift the site, create the same account at new host, change the email settings in outlook if anything is changed.
By pressing send/receive emails keep coming as usual.

It will be in your outlook and if you dont set mail pruning (deleting the mail from server after successful transfer to pop client - outlook), it will be in your server as well.

Once you switch the hosting, outlook can access mails from the new mail server location only.

First thing first, what control panel are you using in the old and new web account ?

You might also want to check with your new web host, some will provide the free service of moving accounts for free.

If you are using Cpanel, all you need to do is to go to Cpanel and enter into 'Backup' then do a full backup and then on the new host, just do a restore.

If you are not using Cpanel, it can get a little trickier.
