My question is very sipmle! I am running a hotel directory. www.onlinehoteldirectory.net i think tha the name says it all! Also when you submit a new link i state that this is just for hotels! But guess what people still submit irrelevant links such as: phone cards, viagra, seo, and many more random links! do you also get this? cheers
Change the filename of submit.php - I am sure some spambots search for file name footprints to find specific link sites.
With so many CHEAP directory submissions going around --they want a QUICKIE They just switch on their automated- Semi-Automated programmes ---and laze around. Thats why --my now PR6 directory had to switch to paid directory in 48hrs --though I wanted to keep it free till PR update. Upgrade to phpLD3.1 if you are running the free script and ban each and every IP that does that
I run a forum and rather then using automated systems or doing it myself I offered two members 'gold status' to do all the dirty work. They submitted my site to over a hundred directories from two "free directory" lists. I instructed them to just follow the list down and submit us to anyone that had a category we'd fit in assuming that if it was something like your site they'd not have "society > Religion > Esoteric and Occult > chats & forums" but oddly enough some did. One of the two compiled a list of directories that did not offer a category for our niche. Your directory would likely be on that list... he also had the common sense to skip blatantly off-niche directories, again, you'd be on the list. The other member went from top to bottom and submitted me to every site that would accept the list. I'm currently listed in a florist directory for an occult site...because they actually had a category for "esoteric and occult'. It seems that robots, morons, and spammers all have something in common. They like submitting to anything labeled "free". So it seems you are stuck with randomly off-niche submissions. Q
thanks a lot guys for the replies. sometimes it really annoys me! I will try and change the filename of submit.php. About robots, morons, and spammers all have something in common. totatly agree with this!!
I get a kick out of the non-related ones that keep coming back to submit. Did they think I didn't see them the first time?
Yep it's a pain, and not just spammers. I get paid submissions to LinkLister which very clearly states it's only for sites which are relevant to UK users, from really inappropriate sites and have to take the time to refund and refuse.
Head down to the legal boards and get a disclaimer stating that refunds will be at your own digression. If people wish to waste their money, it should be their prerogative, just be fair about it.
Problem: Spammers and fully automated submission software Solution: Robs phpLD spam filter (if you're running phpLD), will allow you to filter out all those words you don't like or want
