What effect do you find having your website being linked in wikipedia brings? What I mean is a legit link in the external links page of the topic your site deals with. Legit means it won't be removed by mods and that it's allowed there. Because when you search for a certain term in google, the wikipedia page for that term comes up and I'm linked there. That should have a positive impact on my site, wouldn't you say?
I believe google would only start counting link love from wikipedia after your link has been up for an X amount of months/year(s).
Don't count out Wiki just yet! Nofollows are a "signal of intent" for Google from the webmaster. Not a "this link doesn't count" tag. Some love there still, as long as it's good. WikiP is about as good as they come if relevant.
ah in that case i hope to feel some wiki love soon. i do feel rather neglected by wiki in recent months. it just doesnt care as much as it used to.
Keep an eye on your wiki links. Eventually someone shows up and removes whatever links they want to so you may have to put them back in. It's nice direct traffic and may also help with SERPs.
i do get a minimal amount of traffic from wiki links so i suppose i should be grateful for the link they let me have
I don't have a link on a WIKI, but I do know that they do give some value just check out the WIKI about Aaron wall then look at his back links 2 are right their
What I believe is link from Wiki can still help, even if its with no follow. It can help you as link from one the most trusted site.
You're not allowed to link to your own sites in Wikipedia; if caught, all your links will be mass-removed and your account may be blocked.
This is either not true or new. If it belongs there, put it there. I put a link in to one of my sites, it was questioned by an authority on the subject, I backed it up, and he started asking me if I was interested in moving to New England to take a job. If it is true now please provide proof.
Proof http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest There are many spam hatters over at the wiki and if they hear that it is your site you are posting links to then they delete them and refer you either to the wiki page posted above or to the spam guidelines. Even if the site is relevant. The delete it. They are just super uptight. Luckily some are not like that. For instance the one that offered you a job. Which by the way is a great story.
Just curious, how can you put your link up in a Wiki post unless your site is an .edu link or a really important site, like a news website? I mean, if I was to start posting a link to my website it would stand out like a sore thumb... where abouts are you able to successfully implement a link to your website? Matt
I added a link to my site on wikipedia once, and 2 min later i recieved a message from a mod saying that wikipedia is not a web directory, and i should not add links to my website unless the link is relevant to the article. But who decides if it's relevant ? I thought it was
