Help! My site is falling by the wayside..

Sitepop.net was launched about a month ago and, so far, the results aren't very spectacular and I really have NO idea what I'm doing wrong.

It's a bookmarking site, somewhat like del.icio.us, except not as social. Originally, it was to be just for teachers and the education environment but I decided to release it to everyone.

I spent a few dollars creating this site and I had hoped to, at least, recover the money that I spent on it. ...and I will...in approximately 2031. :(

I don't know much about SEO, my ads don't seem to be relevant, (is it because the page is dynamic and not static?), and I seem to be getting almost NO traffic .

Basically, I need some ideas on how to get visitors to my site, and click-happy ones at that..

    Any help is appreciated. :)

IMHO 1 month isn't enough to make conclusions, you have to wait at least 3.

In a SEO point of view:
Reduce the number of external links on your homepage, almost all I can see is external links!!!
You have to get more links from some good sites, blogs, directories...

BTW, I like your design, but a © can be better than a in the site footer.

to get traffic, for such a polished site, why not submit it to techcrunch/zdnet/theregister/engadget etc see if they will print a story on it?

As your only a month old, your not going to get instant traffic from google. Its taken me a year now to get to 100 new users a day from google.

    For seo, http://www.google.com/search?q=site:sitepop.net&hl=en&filter=0

notice the way every page so far indexed has the same description? Try having a unique one for each page.

Nice website. I would give it some time. You also should try to get as many backlinks as possible. Because you have 0 PR.

Not bad at all. I like your website design. There is a bit too much ads though.

Anyway, it takes time to reach high SERPs. Try to get as many back links as possible and careful choose your anchor words.
With a good link building campaign, you should gain good SERP in no time.

You should be fine in a couple of months. You have to wait it through.

Thanks for all of your replies. It's actually quite encouraging. :) I suppose I tend to be impatient sometimes..

Sounds like you're another in a long line of peeps who expect overnight success.

Want your site to be successful? All it takes it's hard work and patience. I'd recommend to keep adding content daily, build quality backlinks, and don't even look at your adsense for the next 6 months.

There is no such thing as instant traffic. Use adwords just don't go crazy and spend a lot of your hard earned money.

Well polished website - maybe you should try to bring it more in line with the digg or shoutwire format - to encourage people to 'rank' submissions - I suspect that would increase page views. Also... maybe you should use a top frame to keep users on yoursite even after they click the links - there is then an increased chance of them returning! Currently you run the risk of it turning into a directory. Impressive anyway - should be successful!

You need to be really patient at first unless you have a site that really takes off. Most people though will just have to bide their time and do the SEO and and general marketing in the mean time.
