Dear God: Why didn't you save the school children at? Blacksburg, VA Amish Country, PA Wisconsin Columbine High School Moses Lake, Washington 2/2/96 Bethel, Alaska 2/19/97! Pearl, Mississippi 10/1/97 West Paducah, Kentucky 12/1/97 Stam P, Arkansas 12/15/97 Jonesboro, Arkansas 3/24/98 Edinboro, Pennsylvania 4/24/98 Fayetteville, Tennessee 5/19/98 Springfield, Oregon 5/21/98 Richmond, Virginia 6/15/98 Littleton, Colorado 4/20/99 Taber, Alberta, Canada 5/28/99 Conyers, Georgia 5/20/99 Deming, New Mexico 11/19/99 Fort Gibson, Oklahoma 12/6/99 Santee, California 3/ 5/01 and El Cajon, California 3/22/01? Sincerely, Concerned Student ----------------------------------------------------- Reply: Dear Concerned Student: I am not allowed in schools anymore. Sincerely, God ---------------------------------------------------------- How did this get started?... ----------------- Let's see, I think it started when Madeline Murray O'Hare complained She didn't want any prayer in our schools. And we said, OK.. ------------------ Then, Someone said you better not read the Bible in school, The Bible that says "thou shalt! Not kill, Thou shalt not steal, And love your neighbors as yourself," And we said, OK... ----------------- Dr. Benjamin Spock said We shouldn't spank our children When they misbehaved Because their little personalities Would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem. And we said, An expert should know what he's talking about So we won't spank them anymore.. ------------------ Then someone said Teachers and principals better not Discipline our children when they misbehave. And the school administrators said No faculty member in this school Better touch a student when they misbehave Because we don't want any bad publicity, And we surely don't want to be sued. And we accepted their reasoning... ------------------ Then some wise school board member said, Since boys will be boys And they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want, So they can have all the fun they desire, And we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said, that's another great idea... ------------------ And someone else took that appreciation a step further And published pictures of nude children And then stepped further still by Making them available on the internet. And we said, everyone's entitled to free speech.... ------------------ And the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote Profanity, violence and illicit sex... And let's record music that encourages Rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes... And we said, it's just entertainment And it has no adverse effect And nobody takes it seriously anyway, So go right ahead. ------------------ Now we're asking ourselves Why our children have no conscience, Why they don't know right from wrong, ! And why it doesn't bother them to Kill strangers, classmates or even themselves. ------------------ Undoubtedly, If we thought about it long and hard enough, We could figure it out. I'm sure it has a great deal to do with... "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW,"
That's an easy dismissal, but it does not address the unfortunate reality that with every passing year more and more Americans are failing to understand the concept of personal responsibility. While I do not agree with suitsme's entire argument, it does seem inarguable that things were better then than they are now in regards to our children's education. Junior High schools now have armed police officers keeping order. When I was in junior high, you could carry a weapon to school with no problems. I lived in a farming community at that time, and the tools that we had for common use would get a 12yr old thrown in adult jail these days. We have a problem and we need a solution. I'm not sure what that solution is, but I am not quite willing to throw out suitsme's entire argument. What he is proposing did work, what we have now doesn't work.
The problem is suitsme doesn't show how any of the things in his post are related to each other. It's one huge slippery slope with no connections at all, and it somehow gets him from no school sponsored prayer to child pornography to school shootings. While I agree that we need to revise the policies in place to prevent school shootings, I don't see how putting prayer in schools and spanking kids helps do that. On saying God Bless America, I don't really care. Really, it doesn't bother me at all. Go right ahead and say it, just don't expect me to say it with you.
I have the solution, and it is quite simple, easy, and will be effective. Bad parents don't have kids - instead their reproductive right (of either one or both of them) is revoked (depending on which one is deemed a dumbass). Eugenics is a two stage process. 1. Identify the parents who are unable to raise a child - whether that means IQ testing, personality testing, or sticking them with a foster child (lord knows there are plenty to go around) and seeing how they do - 2. Genetic testing for personality traits should that become available, or in the most likely case in which they already have one screwball child, revoke their ability to have more. This prevents bad progeny from being passed on, detects the poorly equipped wife/child/husband abusers, those who teach improper values for the Empire, and those who are just plain morons. In addition: This also prevents the raising of a child in a poorly conducive environment, and thus the influences of peers is eventually cut down. Any child found to be a bad influence by the age of 13 will get sent to my "Super Happy Fun Re-Education Camp" and end up reformed, or end up without reproductive rights of their own, and sent to "Happy Fun Labor Land!" That is - only if I am World Dictator.
Person: The problem is that school shootings are a symptom of a symptom of a symptom and we have to go way back to address the cause. The cause is that we have raised at least one generation of humans who do not know how to accept personal responsibility. Everything in their lives is someone else's fault and when things don't go their way they strike out at other people instead of resolving the problem which exists inside themselves. Jackuul: This is a nurture problem, you can't solve it with a nature solution. These kids aren't genetically any worse than past American generations -- but they are culturally much more poor.
Sure. Teach responsibility all you want. That still has absolutely nothing to do with prayer in schools or half the stuff in suitme's post. I agree with you that we have a problem and that we need to do something about it, either with better policy toward preventing shootings or with methods of teaching responsibility as you suggested. That doesn't change the fact that suitme's post is a giant bunch of unconnected claims. I'll go way back to solve the problem, but you have to show me that the cause presented is actually connected to the current problem. In response to Jackuul: Bah. I'll overthrow you in a coup within two weeks
You can eliminate the disease. I view the decay like a virus, and the bad parents are the first cancerous cells. They multiply. Elimination of the cancer eliminates the disease. Re-Education may not have a 20% success rate, but at least it would be something to try. The rest... The rest end up not spreading their disease and instead help make our nation's cheese - and other manual labor jobs in the SUPER HAPPY FUN LABOR CAMP(tm) Smile or Die! (tm)
I'm thinking of taking over iceland, myself. Cops don't have guns. People don't have guns. No military to speak of. I think me and my dog could take it over in a few hours. Join with my militia and I'll happily give you a few icelandic chicks in trade.
Its very common that kids will be just like their parents. In fact thats the standard in our society so blaming it all on the kids are not correct.
It's not the kids -- it's the way we are raising the kids. The kids are worse than their parents, who are not nearly as good as their parents were. We're stuck in a descending spiral.
Cayman is awesome! I dive there at least once a year...Gotta love being 75 ft down and still have crystal clear water...
