For some reason the PR for most of the pages in my site has dropped. Overall the main homepage has dropped from 6 to 5 and all the interior pages (and i mean ALL!) are now PR4 which is something else i cant understand i have been building links for the site and for the individual pages and have got a lot more links since the last PR update. anyone got any ideas as to what crazyness could be causing this?
probably more people using the nofollow tag and more and more directories are losing the ability to pass PR because of the sites that the link to
Checking out your google sitemap may give you a better idea Do you notice a drop in the backlinks count?
that mite be a factor for sure. i've checked a few of my link partners but they arent using no follow. there may be some that are though if i keep digging. i have submitted to lots and lots of directories so maybe the has been a high impact from the fact they cannot pass PR as well. maybe this has hit me hard as well as some other factors i havent thought of
are you adding fresh content to your site all the time? if so, are you doing this to the main page, or to all the pages?
seems to me google has changed to their algo of calculating pr, many experinced dropping even thoguh their constant link building campaign
i would say that the content stays stagnant for a fairly long time unless there is a particular event that is occuring. in which case we will update a page with the information required. overall i would say that content is not exactly freshened up that often.
have you lost any backlinks for your site? you can use link comment and sitemaps links section for this
using the nofollow tag sounds so queer... who would be so cruel as to not want to help out other sites?
PR dropped by one on most of my sites, but no changes in SERP's. I would not worry at all about PR ..
Yeh it seems weird how they fluctuate soo much. I just don't get how they would have like a standard too implement the PRs. Do they go off backlinks, traffic, both, ore one. Its just so confusing.
i've been doing some checking and so far i've only identified one major link that has gone (site is being redesigned). But surely that can't drop PR that much. looks like its back to the link building drawing board for me then
Depending on the PageRank of that one link, and a whole host of other factors, it's quite possible losing a single back-link could result in an overall drop in your own site's PR. One back-link from a site with a higher PR than your own is worth many hundreds of links with a lower PR.
