How can I organize my domains?

I'm a beginning domainer. I only have around 50 domains and I'm already having quite a time keeping track of them. I know the industry standard software for domaining is DRT. But is there anything cheaper or more basic out there?

I am currently using an Excel spreadsheet, but I'm not very savy with spreadsheets and it's too time consuming right now.

Any ideas on organizing and keeping track of domain portfolios would be greatly appreciated.

 

Are they all registered at the same domain name registrar ? If so, they may have a listing of all the domain names. Just sort the list with the one expirying the soonest on the top and just print that list and keep that in a folder. At least that is what I do.

If they are all around the place then consolidate to 1 to 3 domain name registrar would simplify the task.

 

I use Excel, one worksheet per Registrar with a summary of domain name, registration date and checkout columns for every renewal year, one domain per row.

At the end of those registrar worksheets, I have another global list with all my domains arranged alphabetically, and finally another one with the hosting distribution, because some are on shared hosting servers, some are holders of resellers accounts and just a few are sit on my own server.

 

We simply rely on the registrars for this. My domains are with resellerclub / enom / godaddy / registerfly and all of them keep track of my domains and notify us 60 days prior to the expiration.

At the same time we do keep record of our domains in excel sheet same as "Your content" adviced.

Its kinda easy.

If you want a cheap solution i believe Excel is the best so far
I have various tools, some custom some not but i use Excel as a default

A small tip for newbies
At the A column , row 2 for example you write the expiration time (ex. 10-Apr-2008)
At the B column , row 2 you make the calculation of the time left before expiration with a simple : =A2-today() (format the cell properties of B2 as a date)
Everytime you open the xls you will see the remaining days

 

Someone in the freebies section has a domain portfolio manager. Havnt tested yet as im browsing on wap atm.
