Hi, I have a site which make uses of RSS feeds. Is it unethical for me to have the nofollow tag on the links to the site? Thanks.
I would use the no-follow and the reason I say that is because the rss will change on a daily basis so there is no need to leak out pr.
Nofollow is ethical because you may trust the source of the article but not the article itself. I would, however, suggest you switch your thinking from a nofollow to a javascript popup. Doing this does 2 things 1. It means robots will not follow the links. 2. It allows you to pop up another window for users to follow, this gives them a better chance of returning to your site because it will be there when they close the other. Does that leak PR? I would guess the JS one would leak less but I'd have to be on the board @ G to know for sure. I am pretty sure that bots follow nofollow links but do not give them as much weight as regular ones.
I say if it's good enough to use the feed , it's good enough to give credit. JMO Other than that just quote the article and give "props" I wouldn't do that to someone, but I don't care about PR either. I just threw away a wordpress.com PR4, in lieu of my own domain.
Ok, just wondering. I have seen a lot of sites using feeds but with the nofollow tag and I wanted to do it on my site. But this should be a grey area.
