    Hi All

I'm thinking about getting Joomla, PHP-Nuke or one of those famous CMS's. Just wondering if you know which one is more google friendly?

    Thanks

I think I've seen several good addons for Joomla that makes the CMS pretty SEO friendly.

    My two cents.

I have used PHP-Nuke and like the fact that so many mods exist for it. I'm not sure how well it is as far as SEO though.

wordpress works great if you tweak and take care of common seo mistakes. Like duplicate content, use the <!--more--> feature. Also changing the link structure to /%category%/%postname% should help with seo.

You should try Drupal. I have used it and loved it.
Not sure whether or not it is good for SEO.

Joomla is good, so is wordpress but they have very different abilities - they can't be compared so you really have to consider your site requirements first.

    stay away from nuke

If you're happy down at the wordpress level but want to be able to do forms and a few extra things consider SilverStripe too. Very user friendly and seo urls. example: www.andrewking.co.nz

Matt Cutts don't need to "SE optimize" is blog, being Matt Cutts ensure him enough links and naturals readers.

And if you have a look at his blog, you'll see it's far from being the better optimized blog around.

But I agree, if the OP can be satisfied with WP functionalities, it's very good from a SEO standpoint.

No CMS is perfect, but the best out of box solution i've found is plone which is built on top of zope.

Most of the PHP based CMS are terrible, with Wordpress being the best, but the lack of any control of the meta description is a pretty big problem with WP.

How does PHP or any other programming language matter to SEO - at the end its all HTML seen by browser or spider - right?

I don't have anything against plone or zope, but I believe PHP being more popular and used, chances are you will find more code samples, modes, tweaks written in PHP than any other web scripting language.

Again, as most of people have said - there is no perfect fit CMS as everyone has different needs. So the ones which is easy to understand, customize and get mods is relatively better than others.

So, my vote goes to wordpress!

Sure if you consider SEO to be just about link building, but I find there is a lot more to it. Un-friendly URLS, no unique meta description for pages, no out of box 301 redirection for moved pages, bad use of header tags, duplicate content galore, lack of alt and title attributes on images and anchor links, etc. A lot of it can be fixed with plugins, but out of box, most PHP based content management systems are just plain terrible.
