Was anyone rocking the Plenty Of Fish UK offer? I did pretty good with it until they said that you can't bid on any variations of PlentyOfFish.com or ANYTHING with the word "fish" in it! Looks like the offer is expiring May 3rd though. Sucks it was so short lived.
That Plenty of Fish guy Marcus Whoever creeps me out. Err, on the other hand...if it makes enough money, I can get over it.
I can understand not being able to bid on plentyoffish and plentyoffish.com, but that's rediculous that you can't bid on anything with 'fish'.
It makes perfect sense. Its to avoid people bidding on his trademark as far as misspelling go. Why in the world would you bid on FISH keywords otherwise?
Exactly. Why in the world would you restrict it? So if I was a ringtones advertiser, and I happen to have ringtones.com, and I didn't let people bid on "ringtones", would that not be ridiculous?
Your confused. Plentyoffish isnt a generic term like in your ringtones example. In this case you would be bidding on a typo of his trademark to try to exploit it for a commission. Why would he pay you commission when someone is looking for his website directly already? That person already knows about the website and is probably going to sign up anyway if he is searching for its name. Makes complete sense.
Your still not getting it. The only reason fish is banned, because nobody would bid on fish unless they are trying to take advantage of plentyoffish name.
I Feel he is ryt. Why would some one type Fish for Dating ? Example .. Fish Dating .. Are they Looking to date a Fish ? Unless they are looking for Plenty of Fish Dating
"There's plenty of fish in the sea" is a pretty common saying though so I'm sure it gets searched quite a bit too. I mean, thats where he got the site name from.
I'm not arguing the logicality of trying to convert sales with "fish" in their keywords; it would obviously be difficult and a waste of time. I'm arguing the stupidity of the advertiser banning "fish". If I was an advertiser, a lead's a lead regardless of which way you spin it. Hell bid on my trademark... I mean, I only get 1 spot and I only pay for gauranteed leads, not clicks.
Because maybe you'll sign up with another dating service that doesn't restrict keywords with the name "fish" in it. Then maybe you'll take out ads with the words fish and plentyoffish and direct them to the dating service that isn't restricting your keywords. That is why you might want to let advertisers bid on those keywords. You're more likely to make a profit directing them to the exact site they're looking for. But if you direct users to a site that offers a similar service...
if you bid on their trademark which they themselves will also bid. you indirectly increase the cost of bid. thats why you are not allow to bid on their trademark and similar to their trademark.
