Hi there. It seems to me that backlinks don't really work. For example for one of my websites i've posted links to it in various forms and vays. These forms are link exchange, forum signatures, blog posts, digg, delicious, etc.., forum posts, union posts, web directories and every other possible way. Some of the forums and stuff have PR6+. I've exchanged links with PR3+ posted on varous unions and forums and websites or exchanged links from PR0 to PR9 but still my website is PR0 and google webmasters shows i have no "external" nor do internal links! I'm even linking all my websites to my together but still google says i have no links! So can some1 enlighten me on how to actually get backlinks and in which format, places and stuff. thanks +rep to good posts!
Some forums and blogs are no follow links. They offer no page rank to your site. Any site with no follow links is no good same for redirection of url to your site. It takes time for google to list links to your site. They only count some links not all. Yahoo counts alot more links that google does not. Size of site can help rank also. If your site is 3 pages it is harder to get good rank than site with 150 pages.
Yes, G does a backlink update 2 or 3 weeks before they update the toolbar so it is a snapshot of what backlinks you have at that time. You will probably get some sort of page rank next time around.
I found that content seems to work better than backlinks. My sites that focused on PR took a long time to get PR4. My one site that I didn't care about PR got 5 in less than a month. I suggest building a quality site and being patient.
May I know how did you check this? I would suggest to look into the Google sitemap account and check the stats there. In addition, the stats are not updated often.. so give it a little bit more time.
