I have an interesting question. If I look in my sitemaps and under External Links, I have a url that has 15 external links associated to it. But if I do a link:<url> to check it out, I get no links. Also, using the google toolbar and the backlink under Page Rank, I get 0. Any ideas? Thanks Jacob
I have mixed feelings about the google webmaster tools, sometimes they dont show any links, but I use an seo tool, and I have links, seems like that information updates slowly on the webmasters tools pages too.
If a page links to you, and that page is not indexed by google, google can't count it as a backlink for your website.
I submitted a google sitemap to google webmaster's sitetools but google only indexed my frontpage, none of the subpages :/ ?
One thing I've done for orphan pages that link to me from other sites is go and submit that URL to Google and Yahoo. No clue if it does any good.
If google does not count those backlinks, that googlebot has not indexed yet, is there a way to help googlebot to index those pages? Does it make sence at all?
You never know untill you try ... I am interested what you do in these cases ... Do some internet marketing for those linking to you?
Maybe I'm wrong but I think google does that on purpose.I mean everyone can learn your backlinks with "site:yourlink.com" and people can use them to add their own links. If the reason that google doesn't show backlinks on search was because of not indexing, then backlinks wouldn't be shown at webmaster tools also.I hope i could explain.
Google shows completely strange results for the link: and related: queries. Perhaps they think those features are useful only for SEO people
The issue is Google has changed their algorithm.... and a lot of things have changed. It's not surprising when some of the links have totally disappeared.
