Google Checkout Homepage Hijacked by Hibidder.com!

Discussion in 'Google' started by Jon.West, Apr 30, 2007.

The SERP for Google Checkout's home page displays the title "use google checkout on hibidder com free."

In case they take it down a screenshot can be seen here:

    What does everyone think?

I bet someone in the ODP is linking to https://checkout.google.com with the anchor text "use google checkout on hibidder com free" - and because the Google Checkout page doesn't have the no ODP tag, it is displaying what an ODP editor is using in some random category.

    Go digg it

ok, it looks like http://hibidder.com/ is linking to https://checkout.google.com/ with the alt tag: "use google checkout on hibidder.com free", among other google sites.

So it doesn't look like they did it on purpose. Or even know what they did. Nice way to get their site known tho.

Yeah it's my blog (and it's not spam ;)).

But how could just linking to them with that alt text give them that title in the SERPs? cl52059's explanation seems a little more feasible.

    Thoughts?

    :D

The Search Engine Roundtable post was written by me, yes. Scroll down to the bottom and see who wrote that post. Do I run that blog? Not quite. :p You can see who writes to it by looking at the authors page. It just so happens that Barry (the guy who runs it) writes for both Search Engine Roundtable and Search Engine Land, so I knew it would be a matter of time till it got posted there ;)

There was no reason to link to Hibidder.
