How risky is it to buy a dropped domain. Is it a high likelyhood that the PR will drop by the next PR update?

If the backlinks are stable for that domain, the PR wouldn't drop..

I have found that a PR 5 I am looking at has 5 backlinks....does this mean it will likely lose its PR 5 status?

buy a dropped domain, then check in the google cache and archives to find out what the domain was all about. then make a website similar to that, use the same meta tags to start with! that way chances are you will not lose the pr to soon! later on slowly make changes, and it will be fine!:)

I am going to make a wordcloud from my PR5 so it will not be similar to its former site. Do you feel this will result in it losing it PR 5 status?

Intuition ;) Well established directories and sites: they tend to be quite solid and remain there for a long time compared to lower quality sites..

The majority of dropped domains lose their PR with each update

Wouldn't it eventually pick it back up if the backlinks are there and you build content related to what it possibly could've been in the past?
