Pretty much the same methods other websites use, only forums generally have more space for ads. Usually higher impressions also.
Well, some sell subscription and sites like sitepoint.com offers paid listing option. Use forums are used as a platform to promote the company's products and services thus creating awareness where there was none or low visibility.
Forums make less money compared to other sites since visitors are less likely to click into advertisements. If a forum is established enough though, it could try and sell ads directly to advertisers CPM.

Adsense normally does not perform well in the forums.. Most forum charges the members for some exclusive features like accessing their VIP areas. Check out DNForum can you will know what i mean
Adsebse and sometime donating members also help out..All depends on the type of community you get, some places have very generous members, which in the end becomes a way to make money, along with adsense..
We place ads on our forum and paid membership. I suggest you try it out on your own forum/site and see how it goes. you can always remove it if you dont like it

Well sometimes a premium membership grants acces to other else private forums. Maybe some other powers such as custom title and stuff like that. Mainly it is used to open sealed forums
No problem. Thnx for the rep Do be carefull you dont want to rush into premium memberships. Wait to you have a few thousand members then only you will benefit from it the most. Else it may scare people away.
