Well, the PR update is finally here and almost everyone's got a glimpse of their ranks. I own several websites and have noticed something peculiar. Here's my theory: Sites with existing PR can only move up or down 2 points For example, a site with pre-update PR 3 can only get either a PR 5 or PR 1 after the update and not higher or lower than that. On the other hand, a site without PR (e.g. PRO) can easily go from 0 to 5 or 6. At least thats what happened to all of my websites. Those already with PR moved up 2 points and those without any PR at all had big jumps of 4 or 5s from 0. Any thoughts on this theory of mine? Do y'all think it's valid?
Easier to move up from pr 0 than pr 3 or 4. Each level is harder and harder so jump from 0 is easiest and gets harder every pr above 3. Just my idea on what is going on.
Not necessarily. You could acquire a few solid PR6-7 backlinks without the exponential growth (unless something changed recently) and get to PR5 or PR6 quite quickly.
Yes, my bad wording - I'm just trying to agree that getting anything higher than 5 requires considerably more effort! In fact PR4 is kind of the new PR1 if you ask me. Plus the algo's changing all the time - if DP forums does drop down to PR6 they really are tightening things up.
Yup I agree completely. On the other hand, did anyone actually had a website with an existing PR which had more than 2 point increase during the update? I've asked around and so far I have never seen a website make more than a 2 point jump in PR if it already had PR to begin with ..
Yep. One of my sites made an 11 point jump. It started at PR0 and jumped right through to PR0. Gotta be a record Col
Interesting theory but not right, maybe generally speaking it is right but I have seen one go from 1-6 on this update.
i have to say not right either - one of my directories - showed PR3 before now it shows PR0 - drop of 3 dont know why though - and my www.zenpix.com/about/ is a PR0 link shows PR4 for no reason lol - so thats proof to help you but directory to hurt its all weird
You are right. I had a site www.myspaceinventory.com which was pr0 and with only two months of promotion it just got pr5.
My site (the t-shirt one) stayed a pr4, gets a lot of traffic being a store, but shopping cart is broke..whoops - I keep meaning to fix it, but I hate the freaking shopping cart I am using.
hmm not a bad theory I suppose...For the most part its true, but then you have those rare cases where it isnt. My site is still stuck at PR0
Agree with the theory, btw nice find that PR can only move 2 points up and down and yeah PR0 sites can easily get PR4, PR5 and PR6 (not more then this )
Well maybe I should add that perhaps it is possible to move 2 points up or down.. but I haven't personally seen any website of mine or from people I know who have experienced that. Perhaps a drop from 3 or any other PR to 0 is possible if it is penalized or deindexed by Google for some crazy blackhat stuff. But to see a site move more than 2 points up when it already has a PR is pretty rare to me... Dave E...
