I'mn in the process of deciding the content on my home page, I have a number of affiliate programs I want to promote as well as some of my own content including local products and services.

I'm woul dlike to ask advice on where I should put my blog, should I install for example the Wordpress plug in on my site or am I better off leaving it hosted by them?

I don't know if when its intalled on my server whether its still search able within the Wordpress site.

Of course it doesn't haev to be Wordpress thats just an example.

    I would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks

    Paul

Depends.. how professional do you want your blog to be? If you have it hosted in your own website with your own domain, it looks more professional than a free hosted one.

It doesn't really matter. Many popular blogs are hosted on wordpress, blogger and others. Focus on content. BTW, google allows you to host your blog with blogger while having it on your own domain. It's very nice.

Depends on people's perception though, usually those are ones who just become famous out of no where. Especially at the local level for marketing, I would establish a .com domain (shorter domain, therefore easier to remember)

Go for WP. For about $20 per year you can get a domain plus decent hosting. The choice of templates and plugins are plenty. Hosting on your own domain is not only professional, but also gives your users a good experience.

I guess WP has a builtin function to import posts from blogger and alike. If this is true, you can go with the blogger and see how you fare. If you are doing well, go ahead with the switch.

    Good luck:)

I prefer WordPress, because it has a lot of options and features. And i agree, if you want to look professional, you should WordPress it! but of course this is just an advice.

Hi I haven't considered cute news, what is it?

My blog I have just started is on word press on their site but as I now have my own .com I am considering how much to put on it. My host has direct install for a number of blogs already set up at a simple click including word press.

I was intending to put the blog on a separate page with maybe adsense at the bottom but I was going to do simple text links out to my affiliate link pages rahter than banners.

I run broad band so haven't been considering load speed on dial up thank you for your advice very useful I'll make sure I consider load speed as well.

I never tried this. Does it really work? Is it more like a redirection? Does it have any negative effect on SEO?

Yes WP is easy...but its not as easy as blogger! Blogger is too easy...I like the rich editor...Its very easy to upload pictures align them etc.

ah i sound like a newbie here....well I personally like stuffs which are user-friendly....and i certainly think blogger is more user friendly when compared with WP.

I would go with my own domain name and hosting as opposed to remotely hosted options. And wordpress is OK for me. After an initial clash I was able to skin it so that the blog integrates to my overall forum theme. The script is OK. The most important thing after you have all these solved: put good content. Don't just copy from others (as 70% or more of the bloggers do). Put your own thoughts and ideas there. That's what makes people respect that blog. Anyone can copy-paste or put links, but few can actually write something interesting ;)

I like Blogger because I didn't want the hassle of setting it up on my host account. It is very easy to use your own domain name if that's what you choose. I have three at Blogger.com and one of them is with my own domain. I also recently figured out that you can add pages to your blog by adding new blogs with simalr name and link them together.

Blogger.com is free and user friendly. JMO

This is the hardest question to answer really, you have to find a good niche, then once you do you have to go all out with that niche. Don't limit it to just a blog, if its a decent sized niche you may want to also have a user forum for it. These types of forums are usually quite successful if you are one of the first to have it.

I would go for own hosting and domain. And I would use something more flexible. Just for example I would use drupal. Why ? Initially i will use only the blog feature of drupal. If I want to expand I will enable the site building features like articles news and forums etc of drupal. That way the expansion will be easy without much hassle. Just my suggestion.
