Yeah, I saw another thread with a similar title, I decided I should post about this. Well my computer randomly shuts off on me all the time, writing a large e-mail, shuts off, working on stuff, shuts off, chatting on msn about business, shuts off, and etc. It is not a virus, I think the computer overheats. I leave it turned off overnight then the morning comes it lasts till 1 pm or so, shuts off, then it shuts off in 2-3 hours then it's like every hour. What is going on? Is my comp f'ed? Thanks, devAngel
Should have bought a mac! hahah just kidding It could be possible overheating im no computer nut but it seems like a logical problem
Yeah, sounds like overheating to me. I suggest buying a new fan for your computer, or clean out the dust in your current one.
Or you could buy a bottle of compressed air. They work really well, and they're usually only like $3-5
Definately try the cleaning and cooling first as they are cheap. The symptoms you describe can also be caused by bad memory, a power supply that is about to die, and a weak or loose connection on the main board. Heat build up can cause the itermittent nature if it is the PS or the main board. Let's hope that it is just dust and a cleaning will cure it.
Pretty much any hardware/electronics store. You could even try a local dollar store and see if they have one there.
Schappster.. ARGH! You beat me to it!!! And w3bmaster: She's trying to sort out the problem.. Not initiate it again
you'd be surprised what a good "blowing" will do for your "machine". I'd start there like everyone else has mentioned. How old is your unit? Have you ever cleaned it? Mine was flipping out 2.12 weeks ago but it was a bad video card/driver
If it blows up, good excuse to stop your online gambling habit Can you check the CPU temperature in the BIOS? Have you overclocked the CPU?
you got your case fan(s), CPU fan, and don't forget the power supply fan....sometimes a micro video card fan.
