BigWebLinks.com PR7 looks good -- keeping an eye out for inner page updates - might be worth a gamble! At lot of directories at PR6 now .... alivedirectory aviva linksjuice sevenseek gii...etc.
Definately worth the gamble I"m looking into it myself. Either go big and drop 600$ for some front page action OR just throw in some cheaper $ for a listing no doubt. It gets so much traffic people must get clicks from it. Hmm 600$ for semi perm front page. Hmmm
Congrats for BWL... I think its matter of concern why AD dropped to PR7. 1) Maybe because PR7 was only one very first stage {weak} 2) Due to PAID LINKS? If its #2 then .. i think its big matter of concerns specially for directory revenue model and generally to all webmasters... why Google is doing all that stuff for just its own algo? ... isn't it like black mailing?
Regarding alivedirectory.com, it surely must be a glitch. alivedirectory.com has more natural links, promotion, articles, press releases, and a lot of other work than bigweblinks and another one that became PR7 put together. So, it just doesn't make sense any way you cut it. I don't know what to think about it, but it is definitely strange.
With due respect to all -- I think directories won't die even if Google says its about paid links ( which I don't think is the case as almost all forums --DP/Daniweb dropped PR) -- Directory industry is I think very organised now and there are lots of people innovating ( please check GII for contets) -different ways. I too have a plan of nie --but its very slow process --I don't want to rush things. First we need to understand how the new G algo works. Thats the KEY. after that we can formulate new strategies to adapt ourshelves with the new situations. After -all we are a creative and innovative community.
Congratulation Chris, Nice reward for the hard work put in. I also agree that this update was little strange, mainsearches looks to have stayed a PR4 yet I have some PR5 detail pages??? http://www.mainsearches.com/detail/link-3236.html I will be ready for the next update! (lol) Thanks Brian
Here's a thought does anyone ACTUALLY know what the algo is to calculate Page Rank? I think it's totally possible google changed the algo slightly making any score that much harder therefor alot of directories are close but not quite. Has anyone looked at other industries before assuming things are our industry specific? There are too many questions without enough answers to make predictions and assumptions. One thing I am rather sure of though is that sites that continue to build quality backlinks and provide value to the internet community will over time maintain and increase pagerank regardless of the algo.
It's not that because, like I said, alivedirectory.com is much more established than bigweblinks.com (although I have worked _very_ hard on bigweblinks, it's just been a much shorter time...alivedirectory has built up over two years).
Then you need to look at WHOM your linked with then as thier must be some rotten apples out thier and you linked with them, which eveidently caused this... unless google did change the linking #s for next level increase or just plain and simple someone at google is a hater thx malcolm
Unusual, yes. But I'm sure it'll correct itself; the only thing is that it might take 3 months to shake out - unlike in the past when (toolbar) PR updated monthly.
Personally I believe that G's PR calculation algo changed. The first changes where done during the last update and now they are still fine tuning it. Some things that imho may contribute more to PR now is link acquisition rate and trust trust trust. Let me clarify what I mean about trust. Up until recently (or at least until before the previous update) G would calculate almost any link in terms of PR. At some point they started devaluing the PR given by some sites and during the last two PR updates what I am seeing is that if a site has a lot of links from sites G doesn't trust they devalue the overall inbound link profile of the site. Edit to add: Congrats for Bigweblinks
That's what I figure too. In the meantime, I will continue work as always. So, it should be even more so by then.
Well i agree with most of what your saying and can see that to a point... So what or Whom should i link to or with now then? Just strong PR web Directories for relevence? or Not.... Do sitewides look as if im trying to cash in on all PR ? which im not as im just advertising Definatly things have changed from what im seeing and will have to make some changes to my pattern of thinking for the next round. thx malcolm
Thanks. Although I haven't been getting many low quality links for quite some time, except maybe the blog post promotions. We'll see how it shakes out. I still think it must have been some sort of glitch because I have also witnessed some other things that don't seem likely also.
But then again, I did the blog post (PayPerPost mainly) a lot more with Big Web Links than Alive Directory. So, I guess that would not be an issue. Actually, I have come to like the blog post stuff. Seems to produce good results in a number of different ways.
