Google should make a statement clearing things up whether it is useless or useful.

PR is useless, I agree. I didn't care that much though until one day...
I have a site since a long time, like back in 1998-1999. It's been that way since the beginning, PR0, no links, no advertising, nothing...
One day, I have created a page in a folder, where I test little PHP code.
So if my site was www. mysite .com, the page was www. mysite .com/folder
    where I put the page.php
Two days later is was PR3 !!!
Since then, www. mysite .com became PR1 !!:D
Also, the 'page.php' in the folder has no links, no advertising, no nothing except some PHP code that do not even work properly
    PR=BS
    Focus on SERP instead...

Strange, but interesting. It shows the effect of "passing PR".

No doubt in my mind about the 'passing PR effect' since then.

Codythebest, i'm not trying to make you agree but i believe pr is not BS mate. High pr does not guarantee web traffic but high pr may bring in a lot of google bots/spiders. Example:

DP: Currently Active Users: 1,131 (463 members and 668 guests)
I believe 5% of 668 guests are bots/spider because DP have pr 6. If you do not believe it, setup a forum ( smf, vBulletin etc ), boost the pr to 5 and above, install the mod to detect spiders and you will be shock with the result.

I used to be obsessed with PR, but I've slowly come to my senses. The only thing that matters to be is traffic. I have new sites with a PR0 that earn me lots of residual income, and a few PR4/5 sites that are nowhere near as profitable.

    I partially disagree with that.

I don't buy links just for the PR benefits. I buy links for the SE traffic benefits. I've seen my profits almost double this month since I started purchasing links.

Agree 100%, Google needs to just remove pagerank or at least make it so nobody can see it, but first they should switch everyones pagerank to 10 just to get people excited over nothing.

The point is people just care it too much as it's absolute thing to do. Actualy it just one of the factors for better SERPs. If you care so much it will just disappointed you when it's downgraded your PR. Just pay attention to traffic and revenue, you will notice that PR will increase by itself.

Correct, except PR doesn't really matter for SERPs directly I don't even think. You will get better PR from high PR sites, but SERPs care more about related sites.

At the very least, pagerank gives an insight into Google's head. Having a good PR, hence Google ranking, is surely not a bad thing?

my supplement site is a PR4, never did one thing to promote it with search engines, never submitted it to a single directory, it got around 400 uniques per day most traffic coming from my other two websites, i.e. banners, then I submitted it to Yahoo and the traffic jumped to 4,000+ visits per day, it's still a PR4.

just an interesting thing I thought I would add here. :)

And the moral of the story is, the only thing that is going to make you money is getting good traffic, not high PR :p

    Hi,

My opinion about PR is as follows:-

1-PR does matter, but remember that you can't view your own actual PR (it's dynamic and keep changing, but not updated on realtime, usually updated after 3 months). so concentrate on other factors rather than pr.

2-What does pr means to google/bots? PR tells bots to frequently and deeply visit your website (not more than that).

3-your ranking relays on your backlink anchors, backlink count, onsite keyword density, and other onsite factors.

These are my opinions, let me know how many agrees and disagrees.

Well if you're buying links for traffic and SEO purposes rather than PR, that's different. Those are things that matter. What I'm saying is that buying links and concentrating so hard on solely PR is such a waste of time.

    Personally:

    1. Having a high PR feels good.
    2. The old saying, it won't hurt.
    3. If I had a cash flow problem I could easily sell links or the site.
    4. I can boast.

By the way, the highest PR that I have is 4 and the site doesn't get even 3 visitors a day:D.
