Well I posted this in a different thread, but I figured I'd start a new one as to not take those other threads off-topic. The thing with PR is that it's completely useless - but it has created a vicious cycle. People value it because they can sell links advertising them as high PR and people will pay lots. The reason people will pay lots is because then they will get higher PR and thus will be able to sell their links for more. It's not actually benifiting anyone, just people have the allusion that it is. The money is all being passed around in between people who are building PR and selling PR links, so in the end everyone is poorer except for the link selling brokers like text-link-ads.com. This is why PR has perceived value, but is really entirely useless and you should all concentrate on building TRAFFIC instead of PR.
Okay, so what do they gain by having a high PR? Nothing. It may be an indication of how well you will rank in the SERPs, but even then not because it doesn't take anchor text or on-site SEO or anything like that into account.
Legitimate sites I posted about this in the LONG thread but it works for this one too. The site that I did major link building for did not go up at all for PR but is through the roof on serps and has been for 2+ months. The internal pages went up but only the pages that I did little or no link building. The sites that I didn't do major link building for gained PR some by 1 or 2 points. My conclusion, ignore PR. I will not be paying any attention to pagerank anylonger. I looked at the competition there are PR 0-3 and in no particular order for the most competitive keywords. There doesn't appear to be any relation to PR for the Serp position. I always knew it was not worth all the hype but now I am coming to realize that it is a very SMALL part of the algo. Not worth fooling with.
Oh, and you can trash my rep all you want people, leaving comments like "idiot" where in a thread where I'm trying to teach you something really doesn't hurt my feelings. It's your loss if you want to waste time building solely PR so that you can sell a link for $20 a month.
I look at those that buy and sell links based on PR only as a kind of false market. Like those that buy/sell weapons and treasure in video games. sure, you may make money for awhile, but it's not based on any 'real' assets. If the toolbar PR went away tommorrow, people would have to rely on 3rd party tools, which are probably more accurate than the toolbar data which is months old. Or maybe they have to actually figure out which links are actually more valuable on their own.
Nice post bro ! Thanks for sharing your thought but i would say something regarding wht you have posted. That is If you get a high pr you will definately get more traffic too. and which means you will be getting more profit as well as more sales. Pr is the one key to your traffic. I mean if i have a Directory which is new and just launched. Its probably having pr0 at the moment. And people dont care to submit there site to pr0 they are feeders and want high pr. Hope you got wht i want to say !
I am going to make a few statements; take them as you wish. PR is not useless. Toolbar PR is very different from the "real" PR Google uses. PR is only one of many factors used to rank your site.
I agree partially with you. PR has perceived value but IMO it's not entirely useless. I'm basing my efforts on building TRAFFIC instead of PR. That efforts are giving me very good traffic on pages with little PR (PR1-PR3), but because of that strategy I also achieved pages with PR4 and low traffic, I'm using that "perceived value" to sell text links on that pages.
I recognize that folks sell links based on their PR. From what I am seeing, the TOOLBAR PR doesn't reflect the value of a link at all. It looks to me to be less of a indicator of page strength to me.
i think pr is a result of backlinks. pr will effect nothink . it's only a number but backlinks from high pr sites will effect your hits
I dont agree with that. If you know that people can mae money by gainng high PR, it means that if you got a high PR you can get money as well.. you are just sound like people who can not get a high PR then blaming PR is not good. but think about it this way. Why dont to just invest a bit for getting high PR then you can harvest the income back when it's high enough. I can not say much as my site also got a low PR. I agree in somehow that PR is not that everything you need to care about, but at least it got some good point as well. just my thought though.
PageRank is one of the methods Google uses to determine a page’s relevance or importance. It is only one part of the story when it comes to the Google listing. In short PageRank is a “voteâ€, by all the other pages on the Web, about how important a page is. High PR does not guarantee web traffic.
