Anyone here visited or live in Costa Rica?

Given the nature of my business (online) I have decided that I hsould no longer live in the united states. For one I don't like the direction the country is headed, but mostly I feel that living abroad gives a person a better perspective on life in general. In the next 12 months or so my girlfriend and I plan to sell the house, cars, etc and move to Costa Rica. Anyone here live there or visited?

I have never been there, but I know it is a fantastic place to be and I really hope your move works out smoothly and everything goes to plan for you and your girlfriend.

I agree when you say USA is going in the wrong direction, I live in the UK myself and I want to move out of here, when I get older.

I went there for a month last year. I loved it....but I definitely wouldn't want to live there.

They're still just a little too "third-world" for me.

I wouldn't mind having a vacation home there though. :p

It's definitely a big change from the "big city", but I think a good slow down is just what I need to get things back in order. I spend entirely too much money on "things" right now and would rather just lay on the beach, work enough to support a nice lifestyle and be a bit happier. I think we all get too focused on work sometimes and forget that we aren't going to live forever :)

Thanks for the comments guys :)

It'd be way cheaper then living in the US, plus I've heard that they've got some nice women there

    Went 2 weeks.
The 2 things I liked the most in Costa Rica were the animals everywhere and the big waves!
I understand your feeling. I gonna travel around Europe for a couple months soon to get back to the "real" things.
    Good luck with your project!

The average Tico makes around 300 a month, you can get a nice house for 120 a month, but not where I live by the beach. After buying groceries for the family you still have around 80 bucks left to go get drunk every payday. Things are cheap here, but like I said, I am where there is about 80 percent not Costa Rican and the prices are high. You can still get a cabina for about 8 bucks a night, but there are also hotels which are $250.00 a night (that is the place where Mel Gibson was staying, who just bought a 240 acre piece of land close to Samara).

I am organizing the 1st Annual Directory Convention here and am talking to a lot of hotel owners, and have found out that whatever your price range is, there is something for everyone.

Santa Teresa. 6 months. Best spot IMO, also the number 4 spot for surfing in the world. :)

IF you need things like air conditioning, toilets, showers and doors, you'll probably need to pay $75 per night minimum at most places.

We by no means stayed in the nicest places and I think most of the hotels were >$100/night.

At least that was my experience. I'm not into sweating my nuttz off and swatting bugs all night. :p

    I need my rest!

You also forgot to mention how disgusting your hippie friends are!

I've never seen so many hippies as I did at the SE coast.

I almost ran a few off the road. "Get a job, God damn hippie BUM!"
