Pork was frowned upon in the old days due to Trichinosis. This is only an issue now if you undercook pork, therefore it should no longer be an issue. Cook the Pork and eat it. No problem. :D

Homer: Are you saying you're never going to eat any animal again? What about bacon?
    Lisa: No.
    Homer: Ham?
    Lisa: No.
    Homer: Pork chops?
Lisa: Dad, those all come from the same animal.

Homer: Heh heh heh. Ooh, yeah, right, Lisa. A wonderful, magical animal.

Actually, this itself is a thing of the past. Pink pork is perfect, providing preconceived prejudices pass.

Maybe because cows and pigs are sacred?

Pigs are not considered sacred by Jews or Muslims. Quite the opposite, they are considered dirty or unclean.

Even that can’t be made a valid argument, since Taenia saginata, or the Beef tapeworm also infects Beef. Yet Beef wasn’t forbidden.

As you say Cook the Pork and eat it. No problem.:D

:) I do not think i said anything like do not trust scientists at all, i said science is not developed enough nor will be anytime soon to discover everything about the nature, and can surely be mistaken from time to time. I think you'd figure this was what i said anyway.

You can find like billion examples where majority was wrong, which does not prove they are always wrong, but might be wrong/capable of believing something false. This generalizing everything thingy seems to spread throughout the forum lately.

Listen to the gourmet. Northpointaki is right.

In Thailand they eat even rats and snakes nowadays, scorpions too, so what? They are still alive and well nourished.

I don't know, but there are sure people out there who don't mind and don't have ethics as it is understood by our time.

I for myself prefer vegis and meat substitudes(any kind of nuts and a handfull a day is enough for any adult).

I used to be a vegeterain from birth until the age of 17. After then I was moving around in my country and had no chance to eat vegeterian food, since it was hardly available, so I had to eat meat too.

I don’t have a problem with what you are saying about the current status of science. However what I don’t understand is your position in relation to the specific issue we are discussing here: “Pork meat”. What advise are we supposed to follow? some old and outdated holy scriptures or science in its current status.

I accept that generalizing is not a valid argument and I add to that an example where the majority at one time believed that the earth was flat when they were all wrong.

But here the case is different, you can think of it as if we are performing an experiment in a lab with billions of people taking part. These people have been eating pork for thousands of years and they still do. We have never heard of any adverse effects on their health which are different from any other meat. To them pork is just an animal like any others that we cook in our meals.

Holy scriptures mentioned in this thread are never outdated, that's why they are holy, or that's our difference in point of views. We can't or should find a resolution on this basis, you go on eating and some other don't. That is all. ;)

I know many Muslims who won't even go near pork, never mind eat it so the whole medical grounds issue is flawed. Muslims tend to go along with what the Quran says & abstain from & avoid pork.

Judaism and Islam are very close to each other in their tradition. Muhammad in his travels and trade had a lot of contact with Jews and not eating pork is copied from Judaism.

Muhammad then probably documented that, then everyone follows (most follow) correct?

Anyway it's out dated knowledge now.

What the hell are you talking about?

Jews still don't eat pork, the same way that Muslims don't.

Every Jew I know eats pork.

I'm OK with Muslims not eating pork -- it just means that there is more bacon for me! :)

Oh dear i mis-understood you i thought you were just stating that Muhammad copied Jews. When in-fact you wanted to drag Jews into this too, either way what i said still stands about Muslims or jews or anyone else.
