So Wal-Mart is all about saving lives in the third word

"By useing child labor Wal-Mart hopes to save the world--and make a killing." Sounds like a good headline for the Onion.

And tell me again exactly what the rich white liberals who hate Wal-Mart are doing to keep food on the table for the people of Bangladesh?

For one thing it's not the job of the US to intervene in all of planet Earth's affairs. There are local economies. Children in other countries could also go to school or learn a trade other than making Wal-Mark products.

BTW, I don't actually think Wal-Mart cares about these people's welfare, as evidenced by the lack of inspections of their own factories. It's a business after all. It seems we have had plenty of examples of some people's capacity for unbridled greed, e.g., Enron.

Yeah, and if frogs had wings they wouldn't bump their asses when they hit the ground.

Man, it must be nice to live in such a wonderful fantasy world.

Question: What is the one principle upon which all economics is based?

Exchange of useful services? Or not, considering that a lot of people make a lot of money pumping and dumping--as we see with some website sales. Knowing what kind of games people play with internet money making scams, I'm suprised people here could trust the big companies (these guys really know how to play the game).

This guy is talking about big business unbridled.

I don't know if I would "brag" about that, but I do check labels much of the time before I buy good.

I try not to purchase goods from repressive regimes. Obviously, that only works a portion of the time.

Not any more than with any other major retailer -- and often less. WalMart has had a reasonable "buy American" program going for decades.

The Buy American program gets a lot of grief because it's far from perfect. Strangely, this grief comes from leftists who hate America and are closely ideologically tied to red China. Politics makes people do very strange things.

I am not a "Buy American" person. I am just as happy buying goods from Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Great Britain, Mexico, etc...

I support economic freedom for people everywhere.

Yeah, it's very far from perfect.

And guess who could do something about it.

Oh please... quoting PBS... get real. PBS's goal is to do a hatchet job on capitalism. You might as well quote Prava.

RCA was building crappy products at high prices. The free market killed them for very good reasons. I can only hope that Phillips goes next.

Walmart is great! Low prices, lots of choices. Only complaint I have is that they never have enough checkout lines open.

This is just another example of how liberals do not stand for anything. Their only purpose is to stand against...everything.

    I love Wal-Mart because I can pick up everything I need -- at 3am.

In California, they legislated a mandatory closing time for Wal-Mart. That SUCKED. I had to leave work early to go shopping.

    I hate the goddamned government.

When a huge organisation gains a large and controlling amount of power it will often be compelled to preserve that power at whatever cost. Its usually corrupt governments, communists governments or militant groups. I guess wal-mart is acknowledging its place in society.

The main issue raised by the use of covert operations by wal-mart isnt privacy, its more about abuse of power.

If any person, group or organisation shows any signs of doing something that walmart doesnt want, then walmart will make a pre-emptive strike to nullify those efforts.

Africa, asia and south america will probably be on the recieving end of this abuse of power.

If I was the CEO of Wal-Mart I would begin to create an army out of 'security' and when the time is right - undersell everyone else out there ignoring the marginal benefit/cost scale for as long as I pleased with the capital excess I had stored. Then with most the other chains bled to death and bought by me I would execute my takeover of the world through political means - buying 70% of the vote in every country's parliament/congress/what have you. When that is completed only three things would be left before I could rule 70% of the planet - and the other 30% will fall quickly.

Wal-Mart is mostly the same stuff you buy elsewhere, but at a lower cost.

Goodness, have you ever shopped in a Wal-Mart? You seem to have the strangest ideas.

Why not? Wranglers (made in Mexico) are the same no matter where you buy them. Ditto for my Fruit of the Looms. Plus, they have great socks from Dickies.

Shoes and boots, I'm off to REI or Tactical 5.11. Shirts are hell, so it's Tactical 5.11 or some nasty mall store.

Thanks, your fantasizing about my wardrobe makes me feel sexy.
