Its not really weird, the www is part of the actual domain, and the word wide web(www) is missing, therefore creating www.tv simple.

No, they're not strange, but would be awesome names to own. They're like any other domain.

They don't have to be official, they can be registered by anyone if they were available, but some ccTLDs could have www dot extention reserved

Some of you guys actually surprise me by asking such stupid questions :b

having www. in front of your domain is just an bad habit if you ask me. It's just a normal subdomain, equal to forum.digitalpoint.com.

    www is deprecated.

No need to be so rude Mafaka!

Why not explain to people a little further?

The www in front of a domain is only there if the web server has the domain configured with it.

    For example.

Every domain I host I make sure to place two virtual blocks into the apache config.

One with a www in front of the domain and one without it.

That way people can access the site using the www and also access it without using the www.

I agree that the www in front of the domain is just a subdomain but I do not agree that it is a bad habit being as most if not ALL new net users assume that the www is needed!

    nameeeeeen!

Wow I did not know that. I didn't think there was a way to change it, I always thought that it worked either way. Hmmm nice info. thanks for that.

Of course I am not sure why you would want to get rid of the www because many people think it has to be there and if they put it there, they can't find your site. Wouldn't you lose a lot of visitors?
