One of my kids was born with cleft pallet, which isn't to common...

Was anyone here born with that by any chance?

    Thats good to hear,

My son had surgery already for his lip, and the pallet surgery is really soon,

He actually was born with both cleft pallet and lip

I don't think it's that uncommon actually - in the medical sense - 1 in 600 live births (Oxford Handbook of General Practice).

Basically a baby is born with the roof of their mouth deformed. Causes problems with eating and infection due to bugs getting trapped in the unusually shaped tissue.

I have 2 cousins in the same family with it.
Both are in early 50's, but even with the surgery techniques in the 1950's they both speak well (although a little nasal)
Visual deformity is minimal (Both are male and wear mustaches that cover it completly)

Your Little one will do ok, good luck

my girlfriend is a speech language pathologist (she helps children to speak properly) and has worked with a lot of cleft palettes, most of whom have gone on to great success. the advances made in the surgery over the past few years are nothing short of astounding, i trust it will go well -- best of luck.

My grandson was born with a large cleft in his lip and a smaller cleft in his dental arch.

Surgery was done at about 3 months of age, and he is healing wonderfully. The doctor says by age 2 we will hardly notice the scar. The attached photo is of him at age 12 months. You have every reason to be very optimistic.
