They put scrubbers in the power plants to stop the emissions It killed large amounts of forests and lakes where I used to live, fucking retard http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid_rain You cannot drink or eat fish out any lake the Adirondack state park anymore because a combination or PCBS, mercury and acid rain The lakes are either dead or poison
Except we have thermometers that say the earth is warming. Are you questioning the technology behind thermometers now?
Temperatures go up, temperatures go down. Ice ages come and go. You're intensely arrogant if you believe that you are the cause -- or the cure.
Brilliant but you are distracting me. I need to focus on keeping the Sun rotating around the Earth. {begins talking to self} Focus. Focus. Concentrate. Concentrate. Sun, move to apex....must concentrate....errrrrr..almost there..... Note: Is there a smilie for straining in concentration?
Industrialization is a modern phenomenon, entirely brought on by man. Tbarr, Will, anyone - what structural effect, if any, do you believe industrialization has had on the earth's ecosystem?
would we have industrialization if God had not given us the knowledge to know how to do it? Do you think God is giving us the knowledge to destroy our ow planet? or will God take care of it in the end.?
D16man, with no disrespect intended towards you or your beliefs, I don't believe in any deity so no, I don't believe there is a "plan in place." If there were a deity, I'd say he, she, it has been asleep at the wheel. Personally, my own phrase, stretching back to my salad college days, is that we have enough brains to make the sword, but not enough to put it down. It applies everywhere, I think - enough brains to manage, subvert, coopt, overcome nature - but not enough to realize we are nature ourselves.
The fears over communist domination where in the same category as saddam and his WMD. It was all propaganda to fuel the military-industrial complex. you remember, those guys ike warned us about.
To those who believe, there are a million deities - many of them flatly in contradiction to each other. However, as in my mind there is no deity, there there is nothing beyond that. It is impossible to ascribe personality or intent to something that doesn't exist.
I believe, but not in a million dieties, only 1...and I disagree that it is impossible to ascibe personality or intent, as whether you believe or not, Jesus did in fact exist. He was as much man as you and I, and therefore did exist. The challenge here though is whether or not you believe he is God.
You don't think science is susceptible political influences? Who pays them? Who do they have to beg money for research? Ok lets assume that scientist and science is as pure as the driven snow, just for the sake of the argument. Why is the only solution being posited for the "Global Warming" problem a radical move towards global government? Doesn't that make you wonder about this issue just a little?
d16, I'm sorry, but your mixing logics. I agree, he was a man. One of the finest examples of humanity I know of. I also agree, he had a personality, and intent. And as a man, he and his teachings can move others to do, or not do, what they will. But if I hold that he was not deity, as I do, his personality cannot exert influence on our ecosystem - only we can. Which returns us to my original question. You believe that Christ is God, which is fine. I have a problem with the very notion of "take dominion over the earth," as it separates us from the very cradle on which we live. We are not apart from it, we are very much It. Believing otherwise has, in my mind, brought us the host of problems we now face. But I ask again:
so our personalities can exert influence on our ecosystem, but yet Jesus, a man like you say we are, cannot? I am not sure I am the one confused here with logic??
I d16, please clarify what question you are actually asking. Are you asking about a deity's ability, or a human being's? I will say again. Since I don't believe in the divine, I cannot ascribe any personality to it, much less a benevolent one. I believe Jesus was a good human being. As such, what he says can exert as much influence as any other human being - good message, by the way, and many have taken up his call to kindness. But as I do not believe he is deity, he cannot exert supernatural forces upon the ecosystem. I have provided my thoughts to your questions. I am sorry if these answers are unclear to you.
You're not listening to what I'm saying: global warming has its basis in science. The debate over the causes of global warming is what is controversial. Even conservative scientists can't ignore the hard data that shows a warming trend. Plugging your fingers in your ears and saying "La la la la" doesn't change the facts but you and your kids are welcome to do it.
No, the only solution is not a move towards global government. I've read plenty of debate about what the true cause of global warming may or may not be and global government has nothing to do with it. How does carbom emissions or increased sun activity have anything to do with a move towards or away from global government? That's like comparing apples and oranges. If you're listening to someone linking global warming and global government then you are listening to a person with an agenda. I'm trying to talk about global warming.
a warming trend of only about 1 degree F in the last 100 years....this is why the whole "global warming" issue is a non issue...we as humans dop not have records that go back past about the mid 1850's....there is no physical way to tell what the actual temp was before then, other than by having a time machine. Furthermore, it is known that there was an iace age, and that the earth goes in cycles...Al Gore's prediction that global warming causes hurricanes was false, and so is the whole global warming myth (how many major hurricanes were there last year? oh yeah, 0...)
