Since you have been scammed by an Indian firm, you can complain to NASSCOM here

    http://www.nasscom.in/Nasscom/templates/NormalPage.aspx?id=2792

It is an association of software and services companies in India, but has backing of the government and clout of law enforcement agencies. They will provide swift justice.

    http://www.chennaicitypolice.org/

You can also register a complain here, or send a mail to the city police. They have a dedicated cyber crime cell.

Have you saved your email, im etc conversations with those scammers ?. I hope you get your money and suitable compensation for this undue harrasment.

How did you find them? Always use sites like Elance or RAC to outsource your work.

For that kind of money, I would have made sure I didn't get scammed. I'm planning a basic online game in the next few months, and it will run us from $2500 to $5,000. I was thinking of outsourcing this project to India.

After reading this thread, I will put so much red tape on this transaction that I will make sure we don't get scammed. I will check the background of each company I consider, and I will get references and contact previous parties they worked with to make sure their won't be any problem.

I will also get a contract signed saying they will not be paid the full amount until the entire project is done, ie, a physical game that is actually running. Hell, I'm paying them in installments. No upfront money on this.

I can't afford to get hit by a scam like this. I work too hard for my money...$4,000? That is enough to drive many online businesses into bankruptcy.

Yes, Im the owner of Bluesfear.com also.

I was able to find where they had the mysql username/pass, but recreating the db user did not resolve the issue.

Thanks kamchatka, I'll definitly register at both sites and yes I saved all the emails. We had an agreement document, although nothing was technically signed so Im not sure if you can call that a contract.

A document doesn't necessarily have to be signed...even verbal agreements can be legally binding, of course it depends from country to country though and it's a little harder to prove.

We don't request any money from the customer until the jobs complete and they are satisfied. So it makes me sick to think people do these things and try to get awat with it.

These Carbon scammers should buy some morals with all the money they steal.

I've used a few different people but I always state the minimum I'll agree to is 50% upfront the rest on completion. I usually try for staged payments so after they complete each agreed bit they get paid. On big projects I'll put the money into escrow if need be.
Anyways seems to work for me.

its just a expensive learning experience. If you hire work out for that price, you should make sure that they are somewhat near you. So if anything happens you have a backup plan...
