Why some people don't use Yahoo or Google?

Why they prefer some smaller(not better than google of course) search engine ? I dont understand , dont they want better search results?

Bigger is not always better. I still use Google, but many times I find it to give multiple 'junk' links before a useful one comes up.

Think about it this way, many webmasters do all sorts to be linked onto Google, meaning that left behind will be a lot of links on some irrelevent content, which may get indexed and put into Google giving out results which isnt on the same topic.

With a small search engine, the results are more quality based and many index certain sites and check the quality of it before hand before indexing the site.

    I hope that helps.

i recently start using ask.com and live.com as an alternative or as a second option and its not so bad. But google still is more accurate.

Well, Yahoo and MSN are second and third as far as users go - so they aren't that small. There was actually news today that altavista performs as well as google did in a SE review! Who would have guessed. I left Altavista for google years ago> I guess they cleaned up their act...

Depending what you call better. Google is very picky and delays a lot indexing some pages. Other times, too many repeated links. While MSN picks deep links faster.

Also remember, that most of computers with Windows bring already MSN as portal to Internet, and many don't even know that it can be changed. So if you have it there (the search field) why go somewhere else to search?

Other people usually have set SE's to their daily needs (eventhough we know you can do that on Google), and if they want more specific searches or directories, they will go to those that can provide with those in a more accurate way.

As per you saying that Google is the best, that's only YOUR opinion.

They all have their downfalls, that's why they must "fix" them from time to time. If a search engine was perfect, it would have to only give one result, the right one. (not 1-10 of 11,200,005 results) :D

I could definately see a smaller search engine/directory targeted to a specific niche being better (if its covers what your looking for). I could see someone using something like that to gain many quality results on a certain topic.

i use msn sometimes because it gives different results then google and yahoo. with msn, you can find sites that you would never find using google or yahoo because of the very different algorithm.

true.. some people may be thinking that Google is getting too big. People always hate the dominant power. :)

I use Ask.com as an alternative when Google does not have the particular result I am looking for, but for the most part I prefer Google. I find it's search results are fairly accurate.

Where do you see the news about AltaVista? I thought it was just using Yahoo data (since Yahoo owns them as well as AllTheWeb). Just curious.
