Free Help Getting Quality, Relevant .EDU Backlinks!!!

I keep seeing buzz around the Web, and especially these forums, with tips on getting .edu backlinks. Most of what I'm seeing is a bit on the unethical side, and doesn't lead to "quality" .edu backlinks (the school / site actually choosing to link to you legitimately on a relevant site / page). Despite what you hear here, it's really not that hard, and you don't have to go black hat to do it. I'm going to offer to help a few people do it for free as a part of a case study / report I'm going to be publishing (which will be free through my firm).

Before going into business for myself, I worked mostly in non-profit PR, including a stint early on with a private college, in the PR department. That's precisely who has the power to give you links... if you know how to contact them, and if you know how to give them something of value. It's not as simple as directory submissions, forum postings, etc., but but carries the extra benefit of usually letting you do something newsworthy, letting you get high quality links, and sometimes even a media mention or two on the school's work rather than your own. This won't necessarily work for 100% of sites, but can be adapted to work for the majority.

    Interested?

I'm going to be pretty selective about the sites I help out for free right now, and probably limit it to 3. If you'd like to be considered, you'll need to fill out the following information (in this thread, and not via PM please, or I won't consider it), and if chosen, you'll be required to send me an email (so I have something in "writing") stating that you agree not to reveal any methods I suggest to you to anyone else, as this will be written up in an official step-by-step report later. I'd prefer to keep the test cases limited to US-based sites (simply to avoid time zone issues with trying to contact the site owner, schools, etc.). Here's the info I'll need if you want me to consider you:

    1. Your site URL
    2. Your site niche
    3. The primary resources your site offers to visitors
    4. The nearest metropolitan area (so I can look at schools in your area)

You also will have to have the ability to publish articles or other content on your website, and be willing to do so. I'll be guiding you in what you should add (not talking long articles or anything here), but I won't likely be actually writing for you, although I'll proof it before you publish if you want.

Go ahead and post if you're interested. I won't take on everyone (I'll be looking for sites that will make good examples in the case studies), so don't be offended if I reject your site. If you get approved, I'll likely start working with the first next week, and then the other two later on, so I'm not overrunning my work schedule all at once. :)

I've been meaning to develop this site further for a while now. Site could use some fine tuning but the resume builder is awesome and I'm willing to do whatever you suggest. Could use some outside suggestions for making it more 'link-baitable'. I'm the programmer as well so anything you recommend I will be able to do quickly.

Your resume builder still isn't working.

And is your content all unique to your site? Do you have any credentials in resume-writing by chance?

We focus on people that study sound/music, or need music for media productions. But it's apparent that amatuer musicians and programmers alike could use it.

We've only been in live beta for almost a couple of months... maybe this makes it more interesting for you?

Have a look at it HERE - don't know if it fits you case studies... Fits mine ;)

PM if you can use it. We could sure use .edu backlinks.

maybe this could fit your study --
i work for Halik - a startup company in the transportation field. we have patented materials for road maintenance and asphalt repair , soil stabilization and hydrophobic paints . our materials are used worldwide but the website offers massive unique information on how to fix roads, how to improve transportation and prevent cracks.
take a look i hope you find it fit because i could really use some .edu links :)

    I need the location.

Please everyone, list everything that I asked for in the first post, and post here rather than PMing me. I'm not going to make exceptions as this is a limited case study... must be US-based (both for time zone issues, and b/c I need to be aware of media potential in the area, so even Canada is out for this test), must post rather than PMing, etc. I hate to be strict, but I really want a few quality sites for this that will give a diverse look of the kinds of sites that can get .edu backlinks with a little bit of effort. :)

    Hi,
If you have not yet selected 3, I'm willing to give it a shot...

    1. site URL - currently www.alon-cohen.com. Most of the content will be migrated in a week or so to www.alorit.com pending completion of the redesign (almost finished)
    2. site niche - Online Marketing
    3. The primary resources your site offers to visitors - Internet Marketing
    4. The nearest metropolitan area (so I can look at schools in your area) - Boston, MA

I can think of a few ideas off the top of my head for your site paladin1, so we'll go ahead and book you for one spot. However, I'll likely make you the third I work with, simply because you're going through a redesign, so the domain isn't ready yet.

So far yours is the only site meeting the requirements, and where any questions I posed were answered. If Halik us US-based, I'll likely make that the second confirmation, unless I find two others in the meantime.

So if you'd like to add a site that might work for the case study, you can still post. Here are some examples of topics that may work well: marketing, business, design, photography, etc. Sites for offline businesses would also work well in most cases... just to give you a few ideas.

    Hi Jenn

What a generous offer! I'm brand-new to this forum, and relatively new to SEO, but I'm extremely interested.

We are a Colorado company, and although we only serve a local niche (Colorado real estate) I do believe we have a resource that would have a more universal appeal and might make for an interesting "study". It's a feature we call "Automated Home Appraiser".

    1. Your site URL: AutomatedHomefinder.com
    2. Your site niche: Colorado Real Estate
    3. The primary resources your site offers to visitors: Home searches & statistical tools, but probably the most interesting is automatedhomefinder.com/appraisal
    4. The nearest metropolitan area: Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, & Colorado Springs

I look forward to your response.

    Hi Jenn,
I just wanted to give you an update on the site design that I was waiting on...

The design is finalized and should be implemented over the weekend.

    Again, thanks for your offer.

Paladin, let me know when the site's live w/ the new design, and we'll talk more privately.

Joel, I think your would actually be particularly difficult b/c of the niche not being something as highly covered on .edu sites as many others, but I'm sure I can come up with some ideas. Since I accepted Paladin's site first, and he's almost ready, I'm going to be consulting with him on ideas first. Then I'll be in touch privately.

Since those are the only two sites that would really do well for the case study, and I couldn't get all of my questions answered on others to be able to consider them, I'll likely just do the case studies listed, and if I still want / need a third, I'll work with a past client or use one of my own sites.

    Thanks everyone! :)

Actually, I do have suggestions for an art site / gallery, so that's fine. I'll make yours the third officially, and I'll get in touch when the first two are done (figuring a week for each to look over the sites and give the suggestions / tips / tactics).
