Hey, I just wanted to start my own clothing brand. I have thought of a name and have a logo and a few designs. But i would really like to know a little more about a few things. Im from Australia, where can i register the name, or check if someone else is using it already? Do i need to do anything before i can start selling stuff? Anything else i should know? Thanks in advance for your help. - Sam
Okay I'll answer a few. Where can I check the name? www.whois.net Simply type in the name and it'll check for you. To sell stuff you will need some kind of way to accept money. Getting people to send cash in an envelope is notoriously hard. You will need to accept credit cards so get yourself to paypal or get yourself a merchant account.
Check if the names are copyrighted.. Look for your competitors..Offer everything that they do + your own little ideas
What I would reccommend is register the domain for your label right away! What you should do before selling the shirts is have people vote to see if they like the design OR not. You also should have a website up before you start the sales.
A niche for a clothing brand?......... audience would be more like age groups: example: punk kids, prep, adults, sports fans, etc...
how would one go about making the shirts? I want to sell shirts too, but I have no idea where I would get the shirts from, I don't have a factory, nor do i know how to sow
Aus trademarks database http://www.ipaustralia.gov.au/trademarks/search_index.shtml i would start by coming up with some design ideas then paying someone to design them if you cant do yourself their should be a place close too you that will print the designs on to the tshirts in bulk..
Better to check relevant keywords related to clothing in few good keywords tool, you will get idea for a domain name that might have a targeted keyword.
I must say that you first have a professional website with regard to your shirt product. Then you can promote some free sample for people who get customers to your website. This promotion should be just for a short time inorder to make people know about your brand.Do not forget to provide payment facility access on your website.
Thanks for your replies... munt, thats kinda what i was looking for... gder01, have you tried www.made-in-china.com - Sam
Find some people from India or China to produce it for you. You can get stuff really cheap just remember when starting out do small volume. Sure shipping is more but you never know when you may get ripped off. Both countries are over 1 billion population so you have lots of con artists ... But also lots of great people. Good luck!
Was thinking of doing this but ... maybe its just too out of my league? If i want to make a lot from it then start up costs would be high?
I used to sell clothing online and offline. I even have a few physical shops. But there are a few problems that I hate most of the time. There are: 1) Sizing. Have to stock up on difference sizes and sometimes it's just difficult to clear away certain stocks. 2) Competition. Whenever things sells well, you can see your neighbour selling the same things. 3) Manufacturering. You will really have to be tough with your manufacturer. If not, they will always cut corner. Especially factories in China.
